  • Easy to play on
Size: Strength 2.5
These are what my son uses these for practice since they are less expensive but he prefers the Vandoren v12 reeds for performances. I’m not sure if that’s just psychological or not, I can’t hear a difference - but as long as he’s playing his clarinet I’m ok with it. We seem to go through a lot of reeds so if he wants to save me a little money I’m down for it. These sound great to me and he is happy enough to use them for the most part so I would recommend them for clarinet parents. Reeds seems to be a personal voice for the kiddos but give them a few options to try and see what they like. ... show more

  • For beginners?
Size: Strength 2.5
I’ve messed with this brand since my childhood days in the marching band, so unless they changed something, these were always great reeds for me. You just got to know your size in relation to the quality of the sound you want to produce.

  • Softer than expected
Size: Strength 3.5
I had an older box of Mitchell Luries from a few years ago. I use 3.5s and these are noticeably softer than my older 3.5s of the same brand. I can't speak to changes in product and marketing. As such, you might want to choose a 4 instead, or 1/2 higher.

  • The best reeds
Size: Strength 2.5
I've played the clarinet for over thirty years and have taught many students to play. Mitchell Laurie reeds have the best, most crisp sound with very little of no airiness to it even for beginners. So glad I can now find these on Amazon!

  • Perfect reeds for beginner students
Size: Strength 1.5
I bought these reeds for my son when he expressed interest playing the clarinet. These are the exact reeds I began with myself almost 40 years ago! The 1.5s helped him ease into his first lesson with me. These reeds are very soft, so they are very easy to produce a sound without being winded. This also allows the student to work on his/her embouchure without puffing our their cheeks and biting too hard on the mouthpiece as they try to produce a sound. We didn’t get through half of the box before he switched to a harder reed, so we donated the rest to students at our local middle school. The quality is as consistent as you’d normally get from a decent brand of reeds, but be aware that when you purchase a box, you will have some that aren’t up to par. This is normal across the board. This reed, a good mouthpiece (Vandoren B45 series), and encouraging a consistent practice schedule makes for a good start. ... show more

  • Mitchell Lurie Reeds
Size: Strength 4.0
Size 4 Mitchell Lurie reeds are what I've used my entire life for nearly 30 years. I tried switching to other brands, but thus brand seems to be the only one that is consistent from one Reed to the next. My favorite always!
