I bought it for a week and I only used it once. but when i contacted the seller about the return because the machine is not as smooth as i expected. they told me that the reel I used was so they don't accept returns.

    • No way to adjust spool height.
The line lay out of the box is hideous. The reel needed to be sent out to Van Staal to get the spool height fixed. You would think after paying well over 500 bucks this would be perfect out of the box. Item is being returned. I won't buy Van Staal again.

Don't wast your money on those $300 wannabe Reels Pay the extra and buy this Reel. Light cast really well the new design is perfect. By the way is was pacledge emaculatly by the seller.

    • VR75 is a great backbay reel
I spooled it with 30lb braid. 20# braid would be better but I only had 30#. Paired the reel with a 9 foot ODM DNA. A lighter rod would probably be a better match. I have been able to use the reel this spring and it has performed flawlessly. There were no issues handling slot striped bass. Additionally, the seller was very good.
