Frequently asked questions

The battery life of the Valve Steam Deck OLED model can vary depending on the types of games you're playing and the settings you're using. Typically, you can expect between 2 to 8 hours of gameplay. Lighter tasks or less demanding games will push towards the upper end of that range, while more intensive games may drain the battery faster.

The Valve Steam Deck is designed to run a vast majority of games on Steam, but its ability to run every single game cannot be guaranteed due to the diverse nature of game requirements. Most modern titles are supported, especially those optimized for Linux and SteamOS. However, games with heavy DRM or those not optimized for the platform may encounter issues.

The OLED display on the Steam Deck offers enhanced visuals compared to standard LCD screens. You'll experience deeper blacks, more vibrant colors, and improved contrast ratios. This makes games look more immersive and visually appealing, especially in darker game scenes.

Yes, it's possible to install other software and operating systems on the Steam Deck. The device runs on a Linux-based operating system, SteamOS, but users can choose to install Windows or other Linux distributions. This flexibility allows for a broader range of software and games, including those not available on the Steam platform.

  • First purchase in 10 years with zero buyers remorse
Absolutely love the Steam Deck. Valve has made it incredibly easy to use out of the box. Within a few mins of logging into my Steam account I was playing games. I predominately bought the deck to play some of the titles from my massive Steam backlog. I haven't found the Switch to be a satisfying enough experience to repurchase some of the titles in my backlog on Steam, so I bit the bullet and bought a Deck. It did not disappoint. It easily blows the Switch out of the water. The screen is much larger, the device itself is more powerful. If you've been a PC gamer, you already have a ton of games you can play on it. Steam already has it set up to tell you which games in your library, and the Steam store, work perfectly with the Deck without any configuration. They also let you know which ones work but either require some configuration, or have other minor quirks that don't provide a perfect experience, and which ones they don't currently recommend at all. I will tell you there is a fantastic 3rd party site called ProtonDB that is crowd sourced and gives you a bit more details on the ones that Steam doesn't recommend. I've found a number of titles Steam has listed as not recommended work just fine as is, or with some minor tweaks to settings or controller layout. If you are a little more tech savvy, you aren't just limited to your Steam library. The Deck includes a number of applications in its desktop mode that allows you to link your GoG.com, Epic, and Amazon games library without much effort. They can all be played from desktop mode on the device, or with a little more effort they can be added to the default "games mode" albeit without artwork that a Steam title would show, etc. The device is also made to be user upgradable, meaning if you are comfortable opening the device you can swap out the Hard Drive for one with more storage, replace the control sticks, etc. If you aren't that comfortable, you can always expand storage by way of microSD cards. I can't recommend this device enough. My only complaint is the price on Amazon. If you can, I highly recommend purchasing directly through Valve/Steam. I ordered through Amazon mainly because I wanted the device to arrive in time for a business trip I was taking, and wound up paying nearly $200 over the direct from Valve price for that privilege. ... show more

  • I love this thing!
I got this device because with my new job I have really no time for games, now during my breaks I sit there and play a quick dungeon run in Cult of the Lamb, or a quick hunt in Monster Hunter Rise! It plays basically any game I could want it to. The downside is you really can't play any games with a strict anti-cheat. And it run on Linux in desktop mode, so if you unfamiliar with that system like I am it can get a little confusing. All in all though it's a good little system that is great to do most any game on. ... show more

  • Friggin awesome!
Pros: - i can play pretty much everything on here. The fan is super quiet as well. - It charges pretty fast, beautiful display. Only 2 cons I can think of and that is it feels the a,b,x,y buttons are super close to each otber and while its not a big deal, I have huge hands and end up doing a wrong move or something. The other con is the more graphic the game, like the revamp of Dead Space, it eats thr battery super fast. Yes you can fix the visuals to not be so powerhouse but it kinda takes away from the game at that point. The system does get pretty hot where the fan is sp I suggsst gefting a add on fan too, it will def help in the long run ... show more

  • Incorrect product spec
The Steam Deck 1TB OLED is supposed to have the anti reflective etched glass screen as well as the upgraded carrying case according to the official product spec. The 1TB model I received did not have the anti reflective etched glass screen or the carrying case with the removable inner.
