I got a great deal on this unit and decided to try it. I've had it for several months now but finally got around to breaking it in and melted about 60 cans the other night. It lit and ran good, took a bit to get the gas on the bottle, the control on the propane hose and the air adjustment on the furnace adjusted right, but once I did it made short work of the cans. You will want a spoon of some sort with a decent length handle to get rid of the dross that forms from the paint and crap on the cans. My crucible also didn't have a pour spout and I learned I should have filed one because I poured a lot of the aluminum on the ground, lol. oh well, first time trying anything like this and had a great time, can't wait to do more. ... show more

    • Good Product. Stupid repackaging by Amazon's Warehouse Deals.
I purchased the furnace as a "used" unit but doesn't look like it's ever been fired up. It arrived promptly. The product appears to be well made. The gas regulator assembly has already been properly converted to the correct fitting for US propane tanks. So I am rating the furnace 5 stars. However, if there was a way to rate Amazon's repackaging separately, I would rate that a weak 2. Reason being they shipped the crucible INSIDE the furnace so that as the package was handled and jostled around the crucible squished the kaowool insulation so instead of being 1" thick, it is now maybe 1/2" thick and I will need to replace it before I can safely use the furnace. ... show more

I don't understand. I've been out here for 3 hours, propane is open, regulator is on MAX flow. Air vent open. Flames swirling. Still, all I have are a bunch of charcoal covered aluminum ingots. I don't understand what is going wrong.

    • Easy and worth the money
My father and I purchased this for smelting down soda cans and it did wonders. We had a few errors and mistakes however they were our fault not the fault of the product. Very excited to use this more and more and glad it was easy considering my father and I have zero experience with this type of thing. ... show more

    • The only thing I would have done different...
After almost 3 months of reading reviews and watching videos on YouTube, I really wanted to order a Devil Forge. But for some reason, their website wouldn't load. I decided I would look at some of the other options out there, because I was tired of just watching other people enjoying the hobby... Shipping? I did not opt to pay for quicker delivery, and still had my furnace in 4 days. Out of the box? I was surprised how compact (small) the furnace seemed at first glance (I should have read the dimensions a little closer). Everything was packed nicely, and nothing was damaged between the warehouse and my front door. The instructions were simple and clear. The only thing I needed to do was attach the burner to the furnace. First experience smelting? I was not disappointed. There was a little bit of a challenge getting the right balance between how far open to have the propane regulator and the choke. After adjusting it to where I felt it was right, things went pretty well. I spent the next 3 hours not realizing how fast time was passing, and about half of the bags of soda cans are out of my garage. What would I do different? I would order a propane regulator with a gauge on it. Other than that, nothing. Some day, I will order a Devil Forge, but this isn't going to be my only Cast Masters furnace either. ... show more

I purchased this, due to the price, and size of what I wanted. I was surprised to find out how easy it is to set up and use. I am pleased with the unit. The tongs, however, seem to be not as durable as the rest of the unit, as the first time i poured, the tongs bend slightly. I had to hammer them back in place for a better grip on the crucible. ... show more

Tank exploded into a ring of fire. There is a weak point on the metal that causes leaks and you can see it in the photo where it is red. The hose to connect it to the propane is much too short and there is no pressure gauge on it. Very dangerous, especially for a beginning starter kit...
