  • Nice concept, relatively easy to set up
So it was relatively a pain to set up because the instructions are a little vague. Eventually after playing around with it for a bit I was able to get the fitment correct. 1. Unlock the cover, but leave it in the closed position 2. Insert the metal ratchet shims until its pretty close 3. fully open, then close the cover piece to ratchet and make it right, slowly, and not too tight. I overdid it and it bent the door shims. You want it secure, but not too tight. 4. To release, lift the plastic bar under the cover, and leave it like 70% open. This part was a total freaking pain and wiggling/giggling is required. PROS -Includes two different clip styles -Relatively easy to set up -Rubber inserts for non slip -Fits nearly anything -It feels VERY secure after I got it all tightened down, but the set up was a total pain. CONS -Width is not adjustable. There is a another hole for the screw to fit into if you take it all apart, but then the plastic cover doesn't fit, so never intended to change width. -Whistles, but most racks do, going to rig up a wind guard for that. My take away; It was $60 for a roof rack, nothing else is nearly that cheap, nothing. So we will see how long it functions. I plan to use it for a cargo carrier as well, so we will see what the total apparatus ends up looking like. -UPDATE- I added a roof rack to the bars ($90 w coupon), and I can rock the car back and forth without the cross bars moving, or any hint or wiggling. They are super solid. The roof rack completely removed any noise at all at 60 mph (had a pretty bad howl before), perfect angle, so very satisfied with this purchase. it was $60, find me anything cheaper. Sometimes you can find an old rusty used thule rack that might have the clips for $250+ so do the math. I've had it loaded and no issues so far, I will update if the whole thing flies off or anything. 2006 kia rio5 Manual trans. 210,000MI. Still rolling~ ... show more

  • Trash
More cheap trash. Product doesn't fit even though dimension said it would. Locks don't work. Ratchet system is junk. I wouldn't trust this to hold a pillow. Do not buy.

  • It works, but the latch is a challenge + tips on release
To remove the latch, you need to open the cover and locate a small plastic tab that can be flipped up. Flip the tab then close the cover. You don't have to close all the way, and that should "release" the strap. Though by release the strap is still really tight, you gotta pull hard in order for the strap to budge. Another thing I noticed is that the second bar doesn't latch properly. When the cover is closed I can pull the locking strap out. I ended up flipping the strap upside down, and somehow the other side latches on fine. It's highly undesirable as now the strap now has to attach to the hook in a weird manner now that the strap is upside down, but it still works at the end of the day. The quality of the strap makes this roof rack a pain to take in and out. If you don't do plan on using the roof rack often, it's not that big of a deal. Otherwise, I'm sure there are more expensive and better constructed roof racks out there. For me who only need to haul big items once or twice a year, the trouble is worth the savings as anything decent in quality cost twice as much. ... show more

  • My boyfriend said “make sure you leave a good review”
He installed this before a 10 hour drive. He said the instructions don’t make sense but once you figure it out, you can beat the value for the price. With some lock tight and super glue it would be permanent and much more stable. Will update as we continue to travel. It’s still hanging on so far!

  • Surviced 2000 mile trip !!!
My car didn't come with factory railings and the brand name aftermarket ones are just way too much for me. These work perfectly. Used it on a 2000 mile 1 week road trip. Kept my roof cargo in place. So long as it's mounted correctly, it stays. I'm a bit parranoid about securing things and I shook this to see if i can dislodge from the car and it did not. Also, it has a lock !!! ... show more

  • I wouldn’t recommend this to anyone. Had to retrofit most the parts to make it even work
Edit.* I came and added another star because of our last minute trip I took this loaded to the ozarks camping anf back and it didn’t shift or move. It held better than expected* I opened the box and picked up the first piece. All the metal pins used to hold all the latching mechanisms just fell out. And all the ratcheting pieces along with it. I had to replace all of the gold pins with bolts and nuts to even keep it together while trying to handle it to begin with. The directions are not remotely relevant or useful in any amount. You will be stuck using an hour of tour time just trying to figure out how it could possible go together. But okay I get it where i can handle it without falling apart and get the first one installed on my wife’s car. It does tighten down it seems pretty well to be fair at this point with no wiggle. When I was getting the second one together one of them had a Rachet mechanism inside it broke. And one of the feet pads that supports the rod wasn’t close to the right size. So I had to use an oscillating saw to widen it. I did get it assembled and it did technically work. I had ordered another brand and it didn’t show up and ordered this last minute to come in before our camping trip. All in all spend double and get something quality. This is Chinese junk ... show more

  • Take your time
It is easy if you take your time, if you rush ahead and think you know better it just won't work right. But if you follow the directions and take a minute they mount really easy. Once they are secure and stable they take a full workload, our kayaks haven't moved a scosche even at interstate speed. Making the initial fitting took some time, but after that I can get them on and set in under 5 minutes, and that first fitting was worth all the time it took. Follow the video tutorial for mounting and adjusting, then keep track of the keys to lock it down and you are set. ... show more
