  • Very quiet
Works well and has a small footprint

  • Absolutely Quiet
I received the winder and put my watch in it immediately. I’m amazed at how quiet it. I have it on my nightstand and never hear a thing. And I now don’t have to reset my watch when I don’t wear it every day. Great product.

  • Quality Look
My previous watch winder finally quit working after 10 years so I am hoping this one can have similar longevity. Positives - Looked better than my last one out of the box. Carbon Fiber look on the outside with an all black interior was very sharp. Makes my watch really pop when inside. Negatives - my previous winder had the ability to choose CW/CCW/BOTH and the rate at which it spun. This model is simply ON/OFF - it will spin both CW & CCW at a stated 1200 turns per day. We will see if my timepiece has any issues with keeping a charge with that. This winder is also a bit louder than my previous. You can't hear it normally, but it sits on my nightstand and when I laydown for bed I can hear it when it spins. It's barely noticeable and in no way keeps me up, but I did hear it and took note. Overall this is a great winder for the price and I would have no problem recommending it. ... show more

  • Simple, Basic, Attractive, Excellent Value and Does the Job.
The UnaMela Watch Winder would make for an appreciated novelty gift for a watch enthusiast. Finished in a material new to me, Carbon Fiber leather, it has a decidedly masculine look. Furthermore, it does exactly what the seller says it will, alternately rotating clockwise and counter clockwise for two minutes with six-minute intervals in-between, spinning the inner rotator and winding the mainspring, substituting for the movement of the owner’s wrist. It performs this simple function without any noticeable sound; for all intents and purposes it’s silent. Inside is a watch pillow around which is strapped an automatic watch. Except for the outer stitching around the plexiglass window, the winder is finished entirely in black. The watch winder is supplied with an a/c power adapter or it can be powered with two AA batteries. The manual notes that it should not be powered with both at the same time, so if the a/c adapter is to be used, do not install batteries. To be clear, in the case of your basic, day, date and time recording automatic movement, even a chronograph, a watch winder is a novelty. Most modern automatic watches have at least a 38 – 40-hour power reserve from the time they’re removed from the wrist. In the case of a watch worn every day, a watch winder isn’t really necessary; it’s not going to be off the wrist for nearly that long. In the case of a watch that incorporates a simple automatically wound movement like that already mentioned, that isn’t worn all the time, keeping it on a watch winder only serves to place unnecessary wear and tear on the various components of the movement and its mainspring. And theses days, the cost of basic, regularly scheduled maintenance for just your average Swiss watch is anywhere from $400 - $500. The fact is that watch winders were developed for watches with very complicated movements, and as such, watches that require a complicated and strict procedure for setting the movement and aligning the various complications. A Patek Phillipe Grandmaster Chime or Perpetual Calendar are just two examples of watches that are often set at the factory or by the dealer. If they stop, then it takes expertise to reset them. If the owner doesn’t have that skill, the watch may have to go back to the factory or dealer. For such watches a winder is essential and they are often supplied with one. Another movement that may benefit from a winder is a COSC certified chronometer, for example Rolex movements, although there are many others. Chronometers are regulated at six different positions while exposed to a variety of temperatures. Their accuracy is based on an average of the six positions the Swiss have determined a human wrist is most likely to be oriented throughout a day. They may lose some of their accuracy if they aren’t moved through those six positions, for example, when left lying on a dresser. So, in the case of a chronometer, a watch winder can be used to maintain its accuracy, as well as keep it running; chronometers are most accurate when they are worn. But again, the basic service cost of a Rolex or other high-end Swiss automatic watch can start at $1000.00, and may require a month’s long trip to the factory and back. It’s important to be clear on priorities. Is it really a bother to reset the watch as weighed against nonessential wear and tear? A third use case scenario is for the owner of multiple watches, where the use of each may be on a rotational basis, or any other circumstance where a watch or watches may go unworn for an extended period of time. In this case a watch winder can be used for maintenance. Watches are assembled with lubricants that may be become gummed if left sedentary. Using a watch winder intermittently during the course of storage keeps the internal lubricants flowing and distributed throughout the gears and surfaces of the movement. That said, the UnaMela watch winder would make an inexpensive novelty for the watch enthusiast. It is a watch winder in its simplest form, there are no settings other than on or off. It performs to the seller’s assertions, and do so silently. It’s also offered with a 12-month warranty. It does everything a watch winder should do at a very fair price. ... show more

  • Was worried about noise, but this really is silent
I've avoided buying a winder for my automatic watches for many years, because they tend to be expensive, and also because I was worried that they'd be noisy enough to be annoying, especially at night. This one addresses both of those problems well (to be fair, I might not have tried it if I were not a Vine reviewer and had to pay for it first, but I'm now convinced it's well worth the money.) This winder is well-made with quality materials, and is virtually silent when running. It runs for a few minutes every so often, so it is less likely to overwind your watch. This is not really a problem anyway with most reasonably modern automatic watches, but it's still a nice feature, especially since it will may help the battery life. I'd prefer an even longer period between the winding sessions, but I suppose this is the price paid for keeping the watch always pretty much fully wound and ready to go. (I'm running the winder off of batteries because there's no convenient plug where I keep it - as I write this review, I've only had it a few days, so I don't yet know how long the batteries will last. [UPDATE: It disappointingly only runs about two weeks on batteries - oh well...]) I've seen many other winders that are either way too expensive, or made with cheap-looking materials, if they're more affordable. This one strikes a nice balance - it's not covered in the finest leather, or course, but it's quite nice looking and shows good quality in the seams and finishing. It feels like a premium product, and the price makes it a real value. Best of all, it's surprisingly silent when running - I was concerned about the noise, especially at night, but this winder is so quiet that you can only hear it at all within a foot or so - impressively silent. Recommended - I'm very glad to have this, and may well buy more for other watches. ... show more
