  • Smitten with the design (but not the cleaning)
Color: Red
$20 for a dish drain is hefty no question; I mean even dollar stores sell plain dish drains. But if you, like me, have exclusively used dish drains (i.e., no dishwasher) for a long time, you'll likely appreciate the virtues of this one. It is SO nice having the water contained and not slopping all over the counter, under the drainer, etc. That alone goes a ways to offset the high price. The color red is awesome and matches nicely with other bright red accents in our kitchen. It doesn't take up much space on the counter either, although I did need to stick a piece of wood behind it, between it and the wall I mean, otherwise it sat too far back to drain properly into the sink. The Umbra Tub holds a lot, and it's awfully nice to be able to put dishes every which way. One thing, it does get kind of slimy-feeling inside so it requires regular washing but that's really no trouble. I typically use dish soap and a dish scrubber and then hose it down with the sprayer. Now and again I mix in white vinegar to really sanitize it. EDIT Oct 2013: I've had this drainer over 6 months and if I could I'd probably give it 3.5 stars because it's gotten "slimier" over time. I think that's a result of the inherent nature of plastic (as opposed to glass which doesn't ickier over time -while almost all plastic items seem to no matter how often they're cleaned.). Both the utensil cubbies and the bases of the little posts in the drain bottom get slimy and lately, collect dark crud. Eeew! What is THAT?? I'm cleaning the drain more often and it's tricky to get a hand into the tiny spaces; i.e, into the utensil compartment or inbetween and around the little posts. The overall design would be better if it had more of an incline to drain the water (EDIT 3/19: check out my photo in the Customer Image section for my new solution). Dec 2016: It got too icky, nearly impossible to keep clean and I got rid of it. Almost two years ago I bought a different style Umbra https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008R52OEA/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1 and have been happier with it for sure. ... show more

  • Just what I was looking for…
Color: Charcoal
My old dish strainer had rusted. So I bought another one similar to the one I had. It didn’t work with my setup in the sink. I sent it back and spent some time looking for the perfect one. This one just popped up. I loved the look of it, and the reviews were good. I am so glad I purchased this. It fits perfectly and is sturdy and it looks great. Love it! ... show more

  • Small but effective!
Color: Avocado
This dish rack is smaller than I expected. However, I don't feel limited by how many dishes I can fit in it. Maybe it's the high, steep sides, maybe it's the different design, but it just seems to work great. Even lacking those cup holders that most racks have on the outside. It looks fantastic. Most cheaper dish racks just look terrible, especially after a few months of use. But after four months, this dish rack still looks and works great. In fact, a friend was over recently and said, "Hey, cool dish rack, is that new?" She had been over dozens of times since we've gotten it. Possible downside are some of the quirks of the design. Some may not like the peg-board type design to hold the dishes in place. I think it's nice because it gives more flexibility than the traditional slats. Also, the fact that the drainage is just a hole in the side, forces you to keep this immediately next to the sink. I may fabricate a little plastic extension if I need to move it away from the sink a few inches. Lastly, the utensil holder has openings on the sides that allows water to flow into the main area. However, this also allows smaller utensils to fall down and be forgotten. Not that big of a deal, but it's something to note. For me, all of these things are very minor, I love this dish rack, it's the best I've had. Pros: -Sturdy, well made -Looks great -Works great, good design -Small counter footprint Cons: -Possible minor design flaws mentioned above -Smallish ... show more

  • Excellent and innovative product made with good quality material
Color: Black
Purchased this dish drying rack as it drains out the side (Directly into sink bowl) rather than through the bottom for it to sit on the stainless steel or a tray where build-up occurs. My sink must sit on more of an angle than other reviewers so I don't have a problem with draining. Pros: Size - Small and compact, ample cutlery drying space Colour range - The smoke colour means that I wont see discolouring as quickly, however it does get washed often Materials - All plastic therefore no chance of rusting and of sturdy construction Drainage - only one spout to the side (could easily be put on the left or right hand side as it is symmetrical) Shape - symmetrical, the sides are higher than normal giving it a more tidy look, holds plates in place Cons (depending on your situation): Size - Could be problematic if you don't dry your dishes immediately and have a large amount to wash, however there is plenty of room for cutlery. Shape - handles are a tad oversized, but this is only minor. Depending on your cup size and if they fit around the spokes perfectly it makes a seal and there is no airflow which means the cup won't dry. Drainage - The angle of the drying rack is only slight and I could see how without the additional angle from the sink, it may not drain. Overall, while there are negative points that I can see. I would definitely purchase this product again and have recommended it to family and friends. ... show more

  • Looks nice but doesn’t drain well and difficult to clean
Color: Avocado
I got this in college when we didn’t have a dishwasher. It looks very nice, and I like that it is plastic because it won’t rust and should theoretically be easy to clean, but unfortunately it doesn’t drain as well as you would think and I ended up with mold growing in the tighter areas I couldn’t get to. It also needs a longer little spout at the bottom where the water drains out of, because it isn’t long enough to reach the sink on any sink that has a lip (like the standard metal ones that go on top of the counter). I had to extend it with a piece of plastic I cut. You can move it closer on top of the sink lip, but then it has less of a angle and drains even worse. ... show more
