It saves energy and prevents thermal runaway due to long hours of work. In addition, a thick copper tube with good thermal conductivity is used for the fan, and graphene is sprayed on the heat dissipation module. • Operates as advertised.
It works as advertised. Makes a nice workstation. It boots fast. No bloatware by default. I would have given it five stars but they jacked the price up 15% and I feel it's now overpriced. $475 for the 16/512 configuration was very fair but $559 is a no deal for me.

  • Impressive performance at a price. Iffy second hard drive bay.
So thanks to the AMD Ryzen 5 processor, this mini PC posts impressive CPU benchmarks, although that makes me wish the integrated video card bench marks could do as well. These numbers put this over some of my older computers including an i5 laptop, at a corresponding cost but without a display. If you're looking for the compact size (I plan to strap this to the side of a telescope) then it's probably worth the cost, but just be aware that the form factor doesn't mean bargain pricing. Now, given the performance, why didn't I give it five stars? There are a couple of questionable design decisions, most notably the internal drive bay and connection. Unlike other mini PCs I've used, this one just has a loose cable and connector flopping around inside with a very thin connection to the motherboard. The drive attaches to the lid instead of the body, so if you attach a drive you can stop the flopping, but risk damaging the cable just in opening and closing the lid. The drive only mounts with three screws because they didn't provide the fourth hole that would be blocked by one of the lid latches. The lid opens with a push and release latch in the two front corners that makes it FAR too easy to open the lid accidentally just handling the case. If you put it together and install it somewhere and never touch it, it should be fine, but given I have a dynamic application that will be moving it around, I'm not thrilled with the design. If it had an additional lock I'd be just fine with it. Beyond that it has a VESA mounting bracket that you attach to the back of a monitor, assuming your monitor stand doesn't use the VESA mounting holes, and then you put two screws in the bottom of the case and loosely hang the PC on the bracket. Again, probably ok if you have the mounting points and don't ever touch it again, but if you're likely to regularly plug cables into it, etc. then probably not a solid enough mounting. Certainly it won't work for my planned setup and I'm going to have to come up with something else. ... show more

  • Klever, Kute & Maybe Kubernetes?
Because this little beast can be installed on the back of a VESA compatible monitor, you can think of it as a DIY All-in-One. Unlike many All-in-Ones in the market, you can manage the peripherals and upgrades to suit. In other words, it gives you some of the benefits of "real" computer in a small package. Amazon sellers offer several of these small form factor PC's; it's worth poking around before you settle on one that works for you. BEST FEATURE Mount it on the back of a monitor. It's right there in the manual, but why didn't I think of that? A bracket is even supplied with this kit. SIZE How small is it? Well, the separate, laptop-style 19V 3A power adapter/supply is about 25% of the volume of the whole unit. See photo. BRICK NOTE A plus for the PSU is that it uses a standard cable -- the same type you'd use on a computer, not the more specialized AC power cable you find on mainstream laptop maker bricks. THE COMPUTER OK, keep your expectations modest. Tested Asus DVI monitor, initially small screen until Windows install began, then the typical size -- so hang in there. You will notice the fan, but not terrible. In a user benchmark, the little engine that could was impressive: 45 percentile performance, graphics less wonderful, but a creditable SSD. A practical test of the overall performance is installing the Windows 10 updates. With another "little laptop" at this low cost price that was tested, that took an entire afternoon. With the UM250, it was a respectable 90 minutes and a couple of updates (excluding Office 365 updates). OVERALL Given the USB-C hubs that we've studied lately, it's clear that you could own a "real computer" for not much more than what you're getting for an expensive extension cord. OK, that's unfair -- you're getting a USB to 4K monitor, and multiple monitor capability with those -- but still, this is a great power pack to stick on the back of a VESA equipped monitor. You get two 10-BT ports, headset port, USB3 ports and can even drive another monitor. Everything is well labeled and accessible, though we didn't actually install it on a monitor to verify this. Maybe deploy this in your homegrown Kubernetes pod. This little guy is a glimpse of what the future holds for "desktop" computing. ... show more

  • Great little computer!
I am really impressed with this little machine. It is TINY! {The picture is the mini next to my Kensington trackball. They are nearly the same size!} It has a great processor. I have had Intel processors for the past... 40 years. The Ryzen 5 is the first AMD processor I have tried and it is really fast. It comes with 8g of fast ddr4 on board and a 256g ssd. I personally would prefer a larger drive, but it is upogradable (up to 2t sata). I do have a large external drive, which honestly ought to be good enough. 256 is enough to store programs which need to boot fast and an external can adequately handle storage. It also has a Radeon graphics board, and hdmi out and a disply adaptor which supports 2k. Right now I have it set up as a desktop but it is 20 feet from our tv and we can throw content to it over wifi or cable. It has 4 usb3 ports and a c port as well, wifi, blue tooth... nothing is missing, and it all works well. It was very easy to ste up. all the cables you need are included. All you need to add are peripherals, and you have many options because of the fast ports, blue tooth and wifi. You can also upgrade the ram to 32g. It comes with 8, which really is adequate for most things, but since my husband does 3d animations I may upgrade the ram. However, I am very impressed with it right out of the box. I have been looking at the Intel NUC for years with the idea of putting one together for my husband, whose desktop is old old old. This is easy, and a great value, and most importantly, a very good little machine. ... show more
