  • Unsure how to rate this
My son has had so much fun putting together the Champbot robot. The app instructions are easy to follow. The images of each step can be enlarged and turned 360 degrees to see at all angles. He spent several days working on the robot and was so excited to start coding. As soon as he started using the robot remotely, some of the connections kept popping off causing the robotic arm to either not open or not close. He went through the build process to double check his work over and over. He got it to work for awhile, but started having problems with it again. The robot would be so great if the connections would be stronger. I considered gluing them, but then the pieces wouldn't be able to be used for other builds. ... show more

  • No Android app making this thing useless.
6/5/23 Update. I did find a support email but never received an answer on getting an Andriod version of the app. I ended up doing it the hard way. I found the Jimu APK online after some searching. I downloaded it to our girls device and sideloaded it. That was frustrating at first since I had to grab a parents device and change the settings to allow 3rd party install of apps. Some trial and error I was able to get it loaded and so far our girl has been able to start assembling the robot. It can be a bit confusing so having a parent handy is a plus. ------- You can buy the robot kit but the Jimu app is unavailable. The robot was bought as a gift for our 10yo birthday, She was so excited to open it and spend the afternoon with me building a robot. I spent the next 20 minutes trying to find the Jimu app. All I found was an app for one of their lesser kits or a bunch of 404, page missing. Maybe it has an Apple app but this should be stated in the description that they are not supporting Android. I can't find a support form on their website. I can't find much of anything about this robot on their website. Amazon's contact seller button takes you to a link that is supposed to go to support but is a form to become an affiliate partner. I will give it a day and then I am returning this. Pro 1. Nice packaging. Con 1. No app. 2. No support contact. 3. No explanation of why there is no Android app. 4. Overpriced for a paperweight. ... show more

  • Instructions are on an app
It’s impressive to have the instructions on an app using a 3D animated model to show how the robot comes together, however, I’m a parent who wants my child to spend less time on the Ipad so this is a problem for us. I really appreciate paper book instructions and hope this company can include both in the future. Oddly enough, I found my children preferring the paper book style too. Maybe its because they like to see a step or two ahead and behind, and the app only shows the current step. Of course, it’s probably more environmental to save paper with digital instructions, but when you’re building a robot built entirely of small plastic pieces, I suspect the environment isn’t the first thing on one’s mind. ... show more

  • This was nice, buy it
Bought this for my eight-year-old... I had to basically put it together but the 3-D instructions on my smart phone were more than adequate. Construction took several hours. Once it was done, charged for several hours, we played with it. It’s a great first home robot . My son does Vex IQ locally so he has messed around with a robot in driving it with a remote control. I bought this mostly for the coding experience. I am not disappointed. Cost- I paid near 100$. I would not pay more, it’s a robot to me but a toy for the kids. In the end it will be in pieces again and under a bed or involved in Lego shootouts- keep that in mind unless you have one of those rare species of children who put their toys on a shelf, don’t own anything Nerf, and have no cousins, friends or siblings unlike themselves. Recommended—-buy it for a kid near age 8 for coding experience, age 10 for building and coding, age adult to appreciate its full potential! ... show more
