  • It worked great for me
I brought this mask to use for my first time snorkeling. My wife and I went on a cruise and did some snorkeling in the Bahamas. I used this mask and my wife had the usual type of mask and snorkel pair. I loved using this mask, I had no issues breathing and it did not fog up once. I am not a great swimmer but this mask kept me feeling comfortable the entire time. I spent over an hour in the water and was able to talk and communicate. Speech is a bit muffled through the mask so you have to speak up but the fact that I'm even able to communicate with my face in the water was definitely a plus. I was only in about seven to eight feet of water and did not attempt to dive down. I did at one point lean my head to far down at one point which cause water to seep in from a valve, simply raising my head back to a netruel allowed the water to easily drain back out from the outflow near the mouth of the mask. The stop ball (device that keep water from seeping into the breathing tube) in the snorkel did close on me once making it hard to take a breath, but that was an error on my part when I attempted to float on my back and the snorkel went below the level of the water turning back onto my front allowed the snorkel to come from below the water line and allow me to breath again. My wife who has been snorkeling regularly and is also Dive certified tried out the mask and really enjoyed it. She's ready to turn in her old mask and snorkel for this full face wonder. We'll definitely be purchasing one for her for our next snorkel adventure. I highly recommend this product. It allowed me to breath through my nose how I normally would and have a great first time experience snorkeling without having the hold something in my mouth the entire time. ... show more

  • I'm not a big fan but my 8 year old is.
Size: X-Small Color: Atoll
I purchased this for our son as a replacement. He's a fish and wore his conventional mask and snorkel all the time. We live in FL and he accompanies me on the local reefs, freediving 17 feet or so about 300 yards out to visit "the nursery" where the baby fish congregate. I don't really like this thing, and almost returned it BUT am glad I didn't because he is getting a lot of use out of it. First, the mask face is plastic and I not looking forward to the first scratch - he's not good with swim goggles or sunglasses. Second, I read the reviews about claustrophobia and he has some sensory issues. Third, the snorkel unclipping is very tight and once placed in the bag with the mask it itself is likely to scratch it. Fourth, as you can see this is a very expensive mask. Finally, I tried it out in the pool myself and got a good seal under my lip in spite of the xs size, but didn't trust it and was uncomfortable. Although I was concerned that he would share my feelings and not use it, he took to it pretty quickly. He tried it in the pool and I was afraid for a moment that he would reject it. After thinking about it over night, the next day he wore it all day in the pool without mask-face afterward as usual. The next day we went to our timeshare at the beach and although it was choppy he wore it all the way to the reef, down and back. We had to learn to keep it from fogging with all the exercise (lots of spit and a very brief dunk lasted 20 minutes I think). He says he prefers it to his other now. I estimate he wore it yesterday about four hours. Later than the afternoon the wind kicked up and we had actual surf, which Southeast Florida is not known for. We took his boogie board out and wore this face mask through many tumbles and spills. The other mask would have been torn off for sure. Eventually the streamlined fit allowed him to learn to duck under the big waves with ease and exhilaration- he LOVED this. I was a little concerned that he would somehow fill the mask with water and get in trouble, but it never happened in a couple of hours. I'm sure in some of the tumbles there was pressure pulling at the mask, but it didn't come off. Oh, and no scratches. It outlasted him. After the whole day on the reef and in the surf, he finally came out and said, "I think I need to go to bed." He's been sleeping about 13 hours, so thanks for a quiet morning, Triboard. ... show more

  • Breathing While Swimming
I'm not a snorkeler (is that a word?), and I bought this for swim laps at the gym. Oops. After reading the fine print, it specifically states that it is not for swimming. Oh well. This is a review after one hour-long swim. I took swim lessons as a child, but as an adult, I haven't gone swimming regularly until recently. I remember the basics of swimming, but not breathing. So for simple laps in a relatively shallow pool (deep end is 4ft 9in), I could never make it past the half-way point without having to come up for air. And I was always exhausted prematurely into my goal. For instance, if I wanted to swim for 20 minutes, I was tired at 5. With this mask, everything changed for the better. Initially, I was nervous because I'd never used anything like this and there wasn't a lifeguard on duty yet. I put it on properly but wasn't used to breathing properly. I'd watched reviews and the consensus was to breathe through the nose. Even so, I was exhausted and had to remove the mask to fully breathe at each end of the pool...initially. The fantastic news was that I was able to make full laps without stopping!! After I saw a lifeguard, I felt more confident, eventually breathing through my mouth and taking my time. Going at my own pace an doing what worked for me. And finally, I did breathe through my nose and no longer needed to remove the mask until my swim was done (about an hour total -- avg 30-40 mins prior to this mask). I got some stares from a fellow swimmer and the lifeguard. I didn't see a sign stating that I could not wear this, so until then, I will continue. I will say that it was hard keeping my swim cap over my ears with this on. And at times the water did get into the face part but minimally. Mainly when I stood up and looked up. One thing that kind of scared me at first was when I pushed off from one end of the pool, the breathing piece around my nose compressed onto my nose, restraining my breathing, but only for a mili-second. They do say not to dive with it, so maybe that push-off created pressure like a dive. Side note: This is a pool at a luxury gym. Few people swim in it that I've seen. On average, 0-2 people are in the pool at the same time I am. That said, I saw some questionable slimy and hairy things that made me very happy to have my mouth covered. Ew. I honestly do not plan to swim without this again. So I truly hope there's not a policy against it at the gym. ... show more
