    • This is a good sturdy utility bookcase you have to put together.

The box arrived on time and was complete with all parts and hardware. They were all well-marked and were adequately packed using styrofoam. No parts were damaged in shipment. The 68 lb. box was pretty heavy for this 73 year old guy to lug into the house. After looking through the 17-page instruction pamphlet (9 pages both sides) I decided I would build it in sections on the dining room floor and then haul them up to a very cluttered den for final construction. This bookcase was built in China, so I didn't expect easily explained instructions. I was right about that, as there were few written words, just drawings. Thankfully, the numerous clearly done illustrations were enough to easily walk me through the build. It took about 1 1/2 hours, at a very relaxed pace, to put the bookcase together. All went smoothly with no serious issues. Because I was moving the case sections in parts to my upstairs den I decided to change the order of how I did the build. It was so straight-forward I could easily do that. Transport was easy in pieces. When it was together I was pleasantly surprised the completed bookcase was sturdy, as many other reviewers said, and that it was reasonably attractive for a utilitarian furniture piece. Let's be clear, this bookshelf is nice but it's not high grade furniture, so it's probably something you wouldn't want to have in your living room. For furniture you have to build this Tribesigns bookcase, IMHO, is way better than average. They use a screw-in pin and cam method in construction, so I don't know how sturdy it will be long term. If any pin and cam loosens a bit, I don't see why I can't tighten it up with a few twists of a screwdriver. Another nice feature is individual pieces of wood screwed in the back of every shelf tier using the help of 20 small plastic push-in holders. These, when installed, tighten up construction a bit. The metal base the case shelves mount to are strong, nice looking and easy to clean under. Am I happy with this bookcase? Oh yes! Having another 5–31" long bookshelves that have 11.81" clearance is a big plus. The depth of each shelf goes back a healthy 11 1/4". Lots of room!. Even without securing the bookcase to the wall it stands tall and steady. Impressive. I won't gamble and will use a 3/4" x 3"x 24" board screwed to wall studs to be the base the bookcase will be fixed to. The hardware Tribesigns provides for this might work, but with my method I know it will be rock-solid secure, albeit aesthetically less appealing. I started to load the bookcase, and it's clear it will hold an enormous number of books and quite a few plastic storage containers (for lightbulbs, batteries, printer ink, pens, markers ..... etc.). They would go on the top shelf and case top. Is this bookcase worth the money? I initially thought the price was high at $159 but seeing how big and sturdy it is, how much heavy use it will get, and how much better my stuff will be organized has me rethinking its price. I needed a lighted cabinet, that could withstand some weight, to display my crystals and this is perfect! I am a female, 5’5”, weighing 135 lbs, and I put this together and moved it to the room on my own within an hour. The assembly and light installation was a breeze and it looks great. My only complaint is the light assembly. It doesn’t come with any brackets or straps to organize the wires behind the cabinet so I had to tape them down to keep it tidy. I am happy with this purchase. Two minor flaws: lights did not appear as elegant as they did in the pictures. It is very hard to get a warm white or yellow coloring to match the rest of the lighting in my living room. Second flaw has to do with the small round stickers that cover 12 of the drilled holes [needed for building the shelves]. The stickers looked great for 24 hours, but now they continue to fall off daily. I think I will likely glue them down, but that means I will not be able to take the shelf apart in the future. ... show more

I bought 3 of these and my daughter and I put them all together in a morning. They are not your flimsy cheap book cases. They are holding a LOT of books and there is no dip in the shelves. The instructions are pictures but the parts were all labeled well so we were able to work through the process pretty seamlessly. Loved that the backs are for each shelf (not one whole panel), as I was able to leave one back off a shelf for the outlet, in case we ever need that one. Very very nice. Got this product a few months ago. Lights started going in and out. Tonight I smelled something hot. Saw this smoking and when I unplugged it the USB had melted and part of it stayed in the power device. You can see the discoloration. So now not only do the lights not work but if I wasn't aware of the hot smell I could've had a fire in my house and potentially lost everything. ... show more

Bought in February. Easy to assemble and is very sturdy. Have had zero issues with it until this past week when the lights suddenly went kaput. We've checked the outlet, bulbs, and wires.
