  • Great Tracker For the Price
Color: White (2023)
On my second year of using this tracker for my two female hound dogs. I live in a rural area on the edge of a national forest. My two dogs have a penchant for running off on little "adventures" that take them miles and miles from our home. They always come back but there are hunters, ranchers with cattle, a moderately busy scenic highway nearby, coyotes, etc. etc -- plenty of hazards. I got the tracker so that I could go out and run the little rascals down and retrieve them when they take one of these jaunts and it has worked well for that. If I can get within 500 - 1000 feet of them and whistle they will come right to me, with a "Gee, you're out here too? You should have come with us, it was great!" look on their faces. The only slight drawback is that the tracking is dependent on 1) cell phone coverage and 2) GPS reception. Since our area is remote, mountainous and heavily forested both of these can be spotty or even non-existent depending on where the dogs are. The result is that they drop off the map for some period of time and then re-appear when the tracker gets in range of a cell signal and/or GPS. This coupled with the sparse road network means that it can take some time to run them down but over the last two years I have managed to run them down every time they have taken off. Sometimes it takes an hour or two but that is not the fault of the unit --- it's the environment I live in. I've found that the location the unit gives is very accurate. Live mode works very well if you have a strong enough cell/GPS signal. The unit has saved me a lot of worrying and fretting. Before I got it I would have no idea at all where they were and I would just have wait (and hope) they would not get into trouble and would find their way back. BTW, these two must have a biological GPS built into them because after I got the tracker I found that they would go up to 5 miles away and cover a track of 15 miles or so in just a few hours! With the unit I can know, with assurance, that (for instance) "Oh, they're running down the power line right of way to the lake, no big deal" or "They're over at the Smith's ranch, probably chasing calves so I better get them". So now, if I worry, at least it's more informed worrying! : > The unit seems to be durable and waterproof. This is my second year with it and it's holding up well. My dogs come back covered in mud, water, cockleburrs, etc. The unit is scratched up a bit but otherwise no worse for the wear. Battery life is very good. In our wifi power saving zone the battery would probably last up to a week (guessing). Out of the power saving zone and with a lot of live mode tracking I would estimate that battery life would be 1 -2 days. Can't really say for sure because I charge the unit every night, just in case. My dogs are getting a bit older now and are less adventurous; this unit helped me get them through their adolescence and was certainly worth every penny for the unit and subscription! ... show more

  • Works great and in the middle of no where
Color: White (2023)
I got this because it has a SIM card in it like a cell phone and has its own service. Other trackers use other people's nearby cell phone services to track your pet. That isn't helpful because I live in the middle of no where in the desert. Verizon, AT&T, Spectrum and most other service providers do not or barely work out here. I have Metro and it does. I don't know who the provider is for Tractiv, but this tracker is working great!! It is a lot lighter and smaller than I expected which is great. My deaf 15 yr old service dog went missing a couple weeks ago for 5 days and nights. I couldn't eat or sleep. It really messed me up. I wake up panicked still. It's getting better. The people that had her said that all she did was cry, wouldn't come out from her hiding place and wouldn't eat either. 😭 People were out here with drones, scouring the desert helping me look for her. It did help narrow my search. Flyers on fences worked!! I can NEVER let that happen to her again.😭 She's getting older and may wander. There are coyotes and snakes and all kinds of other dangers out here. I'm so grateful a nice older couple had her and their dog loved her. He was very mad when we took her away. I can't stop crying while writing this. I feel like a bad dog Mom. 😭 Sooo, the app tells you the battery life, if they're sleeping, activity levels and history, location history, you can share their tracking with family or friends, alerts you if your fur baby leaves the virtual fences you place in the app, and has other really cool features like radar that it uses to pinpoint exact location within your Bluetooth range. I'm sure it's great for smaller pets. Lights and sound options when you're looking for them also. Unfortunately, if you do not have WiFi to put it in "safe at home" mode it uses more battery life. You have to charge it every 3-4 days like a cell phone. It last much longer if you do have WiFi. The subscription is NOT $5 a month. It's $9 a month for the year, or $6-$7 for 2 years. $5 is a false advertisement. It's worth every penny to me though. Much cheaper than a cell phone. I see it as a way for her to call home and tell me where she is if anything happens kind of thing. The subscription does offer free replacement of the device if it is lost. Don't wait to get a device like this. I wish I had it before that happened. There are options like the ring tags but someone has to find and scan the tag. Please make sure you chose the best product for you and your pet. So far, I absolutely love it. Thank you Amazon and Tractiv for the peace of mind. Truly. ... show more

  • battery is the only downfall
Color: White (2023)
The collar is great and works like it's supposed to, there have been only a couple of times when an issue would happen, GPS signal can be flaky at times. the app is great and gives loads of information about the tracking of the unit but could use a new update on the interface, I have this on my cat that goes outside for hours/days at a time, he has lost the collar about 6 times and I have been able to find it each time along as the collar has battery life. if the tracker is out of the Wi-Fi Zoom for battery saver, the battery does not last but more than 24-48hours which is a huge downfall if your animal is out for longer than that, I've had times when my cat would be out for 2 days and collar would be dead the day before and that's with only checking the app 1 or 2 times. the more you use the app to connect to the collar the faster the battery will die, this is my 4th collar and they get lost because the cat would come home without the collar and when I would check to see where its at the battery would be dead, so its a lost collar, you might be able to find it from the last location, but 99% of the time the collar would have dead battery than fell off the animal. So you won't find it, a good idea is to write your number on the back of the unit. So if someone finds it they can call you or tractive to get the unit back to the owner. I've had someone find the collar and call tractive and they emailed me telling me someone has found it and they will link you with the person so you can get it back. My only real negative about the unit is the battery life outside the Wi-Fi saver zone. ... show more
