  • Great Value, Super AMOLED screen, Android 10
UPDATE: This phone does push an update to Android 11. About a week ago I received the notification, updated, and has been working GREAT for a week. This review is about the phone, not the Tracfone service. Tracfone isn't for everyone and I want to focus on the phone as that is the primary purchase here. I think both Samsung and Apple make powerful high-end phones. The Samsung S20/S21 and Apple 11/12 function well, do many neat things, but the value is terrible. With the higher end phones you get .2Ghz faster processing and sometimes an additional core or two and slightly better software enhanced cameras. It is the mid-range phones like the A50 that pack a lot of features into a more economical package. It basically like buying tech that is 2 years old and on clearance. 2 years ago it was the $1000 phone and people were in awe. The A50 has 4GB RAM and 64GB storage (48GB after OS and required apps), 8 core CPU, and 25 meg camera. All of that makes it indistinguishable from a $1000 phone for most use. The biggest mistake some people make in a low-mid range phone is not paying close attention to the screen. Some low-mid range phones have terrible TFT screens that are washed out, dim, and hurt to look at. The A50 has the same Super AMOLED 120hz screen as the higher end phones. The camera is on par with any high end phone in full daylight. Where you will see some struggle is the software enhancement at night is not on par. If an A20 and iPhone 12 take daytime 10/10 nighttime 9/10 pics, this phone would be daytime 10/10 nighttime 6/10. There is a difference but it isn't terrible - just adequate. The phone came with Android 10 installed, not 9 as indicated in the product details. ... show more

  • Nice Upgrade but...
Not going to repeat what's already been reviewed on size, memory, camera, etc. Will mention Smart View function that allows us to stream phone screen on Roku TV. Also the loss of ability to use phone as a Hotspot. I could teather my older Galaxy J7 but not this one. Function not allowed by carrier. Not overjoyed at all buttons being on right side of phone. Volume keys on left were much easier to use with thumb but I am getting used to it. USB port on old J7 started to get intermittent. This was nice upgrade. It does have USB-C so old cables don't work. Samsung Smart Switch worked well. ... show more

  • Amazing but not perfect
This has an amoled display like those expensive TV's (self luminous emitting pixels, no backlight) . In general it's fabulous, super bright even at 50% intensity. Movies and games look great. The down side is that it's not as sensitive to touch commands and frequently I have to triple press to get an action. The fingerprint log in function suffers from this a lot (but at least it's on the front of the phone). There is a button in the system setup that I turned on for extra sensitivity to touch but I didn't see much improvement. The phone even warns you about putting a glass cover on the screen as that will reduce touch sensitivity even more so. This phone is amazingly thin, as thick as the battery alone was in my previous Moto G7. This battery is not user replaceable (in either phone). No stereo speakers but can get stereo through the headphone jack. Transferring my data from Motorola to Samsung was not easy. You have to download a Samsung Play Store app (Samsung Smart Switch) to your non Samsung phone. It took about half an hour to do so with all apps coming through but frequently without the old associated data. Bluetooth finds my car stereo instantly every time. Has both audio and call functionality and can be selected both or single function. Also connects to my Windows PC with the included USB C to Standard USB cable. Can transfer large files fast this way. Came with 64 Gig internal storage and I added a 128 Gig Samsung micro SD to really have some files to carry around (can take up to 512 Gig card if needed). Has NFC and Samsung Pay installed. Can play .VOB movie files with the download of the VLC media player. There is a newer A51 model available at about $30 more at the time of this writing. ... show more

  • Much more than I was expecting for the price.
I decided to go with the Samsung A50 because of the memory and storage features, but the phone far exceeds just those features. This thing has awesome speed and the battery seems to be just as great. There are so many customizable options to make it just the device for you. This thing just keeps giving me more customizing options to create the unique device for my individual needs. I love this phone, and I am very pleased with the price. ... show more

  • Nice camera
It's an okay phone if you ask me. The Camera is nice. The talk to text is awful. Everything else is ok

  • Pleased with phone.
I have never been one for fancy phones, but was getting frustrated when I could not download apps on my last phone because you weren't allowed to put them on your SD card. There wasn't enough memory to accomplish much with the built in memory. That being said, I was looking for an upgrade when I purchased this phone. I still do not have a lot of apps on my phone, but have not had any problems getting what I need. Overall, I have been very pleased with this phone. It has had a good battery life. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a basic phone. ... show more
