My 85 year old mother likes to carry a phone with her for occasional use. She doesn't need or want all the bells and whistles of even the most basic smart phone. Her old flip phone (TracFone LG L442BG 3G) would be no longer functional as of 2.22.2022, as TF discontinues all 2G and 3G phones and migrates to the newer 4G LTE network. After a lengthy conversation with TracFone customer service, it was determined the MY FLIP 2 was the only flip phone on the market compatible with TF service as of the moment. TracFone themselves were out of stock, or I believe they would have provided her with a free one. I was very happy to find this renewed phone at a very reasonable price. The only downfall of this phone, as far as my mother is concerned, is you are unable to see your remaining minutes and service time on the display on the front of the phone. The only way you can get that information is to call or text TF, and they will text the information back to you immediately. Not a deal breaker, but not what she's used to. Unlike her old flip phone, which offered minutes only (and texts which were deducted from minutes), this phone offers minutes, SMS, and data. Texts are very cumbersome, using only the number keypad to enter each letter. The phone itself, while renewed, looks brand new. The protective stickers are all in place, and it is clean. Do yourself a favor and remove all protective stickers, especially the one covering the speaker, or trust me, you won't be able to hear a thing! I found it very cumbersome to set up her contact list; the center navigation key coupled with the "soft keys" were not intuitive. Amazon's description says this renewed phone is "Backed by a one-year satisfaction guarantee." However, the box says it’s only 90 days. In my experience, Amazon will stand behind their promise, so I'm not too worried about that. Transferring minutes and service date from the old phone to this one was NOT seamless. It required several calls to TF customer service. If my experience with TF CS figured into my star rating of this phone, it would bring my rating down to a single star, or less. My favorite call (NOT) was the one where after 36 minutes on hold (I was only 32nd in line at the time) I was finally connected to an agent, only to have the call disconnect 30 seconds into the call. Start over, OMG. Literally, it took all afternoon to accomplish the transfer from the old to the new device. For those of you who are able to accomplish the transfer without involving TF CS, you are lucky, and this inexpensive phone will suit you well! ... show more

This phone is so simple and so easy to use that I have bought four of these I was upset because I wanted to buy it again from Amazon and they were out of stock so I went and bought another one I use these four quick answering of a phone and why did I buy so many because if one breaks I'm going to have backups this phone is so wonderful you hit the button on the outside and you automatically are connected to the collar on speakerphone it's wonderful highly recommend this for senior citizens for anybody that's even visually impaired it's wonderful ... show more

    • Great product, VERY annoying default voice instructions

Takes a while to figure out the menus and button functions. The instructions tell you what to do but fall short telling how to do it. My old tel # and minutes & service time transfer from my old tracfone to this one was fairly easy online. I'm a modern day Luddite and just hate to see so many people staring at their phones everywhere they go. The only time I need to stare at this phone is when I'm making or receiving a phone call. Great price and phone looks brand new The phone comes from the factory with voice explaination of various buttons and screens. The voice itself is mechanical, hard to understand, very annoying and distracting. You should disable the voice ASAP - it is useless. Disable the voice by going to SETTINGS, then scroll right to DEVICE, scroll down to ACCESSIBILITY, then scroll down to READOUT. Turn READOUT off. ... show more

    • Difficult to use. Keeps disconnecting from the network.

Screen has way too many options, and the most needed ones are not on the first screen. You can change this with difficulty but the need to reset to factory defaults frequently makes this a pain. This disconnects from the network about once a week, and is nearly impossible to get reconnected. It is Tracfone, being used on the Tracfone network, but can't seem to stay connected. It works fine for a few days, then refuses to take calls or let you get to voicemail. Granted, we're in a low cell phone connection area, but we do get one bar and it works fine on that for a while, then gives up. I don't want to spend another 4 hours on my other phone with Tracfone support trying to get it to work again. It took a factory reset to get it to work again last time, which wipes out all of the data, and you can't save it ahead of time, so you have to hand enter the contacts again. The interface to enter contacts switches back to predictive with every entry instead of staying at Abc, so entry is difficult and you have to switch it to Abc with every entry. This is the only basic phone available to low end users that can't do a smart phone with their TracFone data plan. So sending it back isn't an option. ... show more

My old phone got broken and bought this to replace it. Used tech support to get my original phone number & plan onto this one. Almost similar as doing a setup for a new phone but glad I got my minutes, plan and original number back.
