  • It does handle 45lb anchors but...
You need a battery that can sustain enough amperage and maintain voltage. I used it on a deep cycle battery and it just doesn't have enough lamps to do a full pull up to cradle in 40 ft of water. So I'm going to rig 2 starting batteries in parallel (12v) so I can get enough amps. I don't think this can handle 24v so don't do 2 batteries in series. If you don't need a spot lock trolling motor this is a great option. It's going to make anchoring and pulling anchor in swift water by myself so much easier. Easy to mount. Comes with remote. ... show more

  • Pretty good
Good unit so far. Auto deploy works great. If you use auto deploy you get no tangles in rope. Directions say if using longer distance then ten feet of supplied wire then cut and replace supplied wire with size bigger 10 size wire. Why they don’t just supply 35 feet of 10 size wire and charge $20 more I don’t know. I bought two reals red/black of 30 foot 10 size wire plus new wire connectors and heat shrink. Don’t forget to use breaker/fuse from original wire on battery positive terminal. 30 foot upgraded wire was just enough to wire from front of boat to rear battery on 22 foot pontoon boat. Took 3.5 hours to install. I Put a 20 pound anchor on it. So far works good. FYI SUPPLIED BATTERY IN REMOTE CONTROL CAME WEAK. Would not run unit, pausing while going up and down with remote. Saw other reviews complaining about wireless remote intermittently going up. It’s the battery In remote. Bought a new $8 name brand battery for remote and works great. Battery is a funny battery that no one has local. Order two new battery at least, one a spare. Battery is a number A27 12 volt. Also would not put over 25 pound anchor on it using a short shaft anchor. Over all very happy so far! ... show more

  • Good unit so far
Installed easily on my 20' Pontoon boat. A few things to note if you are thinking about buying this for yours. Yes, it will get tangled if you simply are not watching where your boat is in relation to the anchor. So, I give the UP button a short press to spin the boat TOWARDS the anchor. Mine is mounted on the front of the boat, so if the line goes under and behind, it will tangle if you simply retrieve the anchor in one press. So, short press to get the boat pointed towards the anchor, then hold the button. Then you have no tangles. It would be nice for them to possible design a guide for the rope that aligns it so that it can't pinch off the side of the V roller. ... show more

  • Pretty good I guess
First winch I have purchased. It is easy to install although I had to splice in abou 8 ft of wire to mount on front of my 16 foot bass buggy. I think it’s a bit slow on retrieval but so far, it’s working

  • Nice ancor
It works well. I like the remote feature. It allows you to drop the anchor from the steering wheel when you locate fish on structure.

  • I would not hesitate to buy again
Upon reading through the posted reviews I was sceptical as it was about 50/50 for the overall product. I bought a 30lb anchor for it as it was rated for 40lb and I didn't feel comfortable with maxing out the winch with such diverse reviews. I have it mounted and have only been able to use it on 6 different outings with no negative issues to date. The auto deploy and remote have been great! Just know that once the auto deploy has hit bottom you have to press the up button so it will stop. Not that it keeps going full out but it just seems to keep creeping little by little with the boat drifting. You do have to have a little knowledge in order to mount it properly. This might have been easier had I mounted it on the bow but I chose to mount it off the back of my boat. I am thinking of buying a 2nd one for the front of the boat to give me options when dropping anchor. Overall I would not hesitate to buy again! ... show more

  • Loving it.
I installed the Deckboat 35 on my 21' pontoon early this summer. I use a 15 pound vinyl coated river style mushroom anchor with it. I was concerned that it might not have the power to pull it out of our mucky lake bottom, so I emailed Trac. They said not to use it to lift it out of the bottom, use the boat power to pull it free first. Boy, that negates a lot of the need for a powered anchor. So totally ignoring their advice I have been using it to retrieve the anchor from deep muck. The winch slows down as it frees the anchor from the muck, but does not stall. If it overloaded the winch it should blow the fuse, right? I love that I just push the auto anchor button once from the helm and the anchor drops to the bottom and slowly plays out line so as not to tangle it on the drum, until it magically stops with just enough scope to hold the boat. To retrieve it, you must hold the UP button until the anchor is just below the surface, reach down and swish it back and forth to knock off any remaining muck and carefully bring it up the rest of the way to the storage position. Keeping your fingers out of the way, I might add. I go rogue and don't use the safety clasp as then I couldn't drop the anchor from the helm. So far, so good. Oh and it complements nicely my key fob remote for my hydraulic boat hoist. ... show more
