  • Better than Kasa
Style: 4 pack Multicolor
These are similar to the old Kasa KL-130 bulb, but add several cool new features. For instance, there is now a "party mode" that can use your phone's microphone to make a light show with your bulbs, or the bulbs can just cycle between several colors on their own. They also updated the sunset and sunrise times to allow up to 5 hours before or after instead of only 59 minutes. You can set your lights to turn on or off up to 5 hours and 59 minutes before or after sunrise or sunset, so you have lot's of flexibility. The old KL-130 bulbs had an "away" mode, but they took it away when they made the switch to the Tapo app. The away mode is available from the main screen on these Tapo lights. When set to Away Mode, these lights will randomly turn on and off making it appear like you are home when you are away. The fade feature has also changed. The Kasa KL-130 can be set to fade up to 60 minutes. This Tapo light can only be set to fade up to 30 minutes. That being said, the 'fade' on the original light was stepped, so around every few seconds it would get brighter or dimmer and you would noticeably see it 'step'. The Tapo light does this much more smoothly. The pairing feature also seemed different to me although it's been a long time since I've set up the KL-130. I'm pretty sure those used Bluetooth for setup, and these use Wi-Fi instead, and that's where people are probably going to have the most trouble. During the pairing process, it will ask you to pair your phone with the light. If you have a phone like my Pixel 7, you will need to turn off your cellular network connection while doing this, or the phone won't pair to the light and setup will fail. They are also only 2.4Ghz, which can also cause people issues if they have newer phones. This is kind of a bad setup experience, but for me it was no big deal. That being said, I wouldn't buy these for someone else unless I was prepared to help them set them up. Overall, the light color and brightness is indistinguishable from the older KL-130 bulb to my eyes regardless of the color setting, so I'm not replacing all of my old bulbs just yet. ... show more

  • These bulbs are excellent
Style: 4 Pack White
UPDATE: I've now installed all four of the bulbs included in the package and these things are fantastic. Configuration of the other three went without any problem. Running the bulbs from the phone app works perfectly and I love the dimming capability. Set one at 1% last night so I could have a "night light" on in my kitchen overnight - superb. The app is very intuitive and easy to use. Only unknown is longevity of the bulbs - believe they have a two year warranty. Hopefully they last a long time like regular LED bulbs. I highly recommend based on my experience so far. Had some difficulty getting it to connect to my wi-fi and thought it was going to be another big fail like the Sengeled bulbs that never worked. However I eventually got it connected to my guest wi-fi. The app is easy to use to set up a schedule. I had a rare power blip in the middle of the night at which time the light came on and stayed on. I finally got it to go off. Not sure what it would have done on its own. So far it seems to be working but it’s early. ... show more

  • Really Good Bulb but High Pitch Noise Is a Nuisance
Style: 4 pack Multicolor
The Good I don’t regret purchase, price is reasonable & they function very well, I have had 1 set over a year. I have bought a couple boxes, programing was fairly easy for me, about 10 minutes to do all 4, bulbs are really bright and colors are very versatile, the app works really well and easy to integrate with Alexa. The Bad The only issue is that when lights are off but power is there or about 60percent light , they emit a high pitch ringing noise, it’s not terribly annoying but I can hear it, my wife doesn’t, it’s not loud enough to deter me from buying more but I never had that issue with Philip hue bulbs that are way more expensive. ... show more

  • These bulbs rock!
Style: 4 pack Multicolor
Very easy to setup using the Tapo app, I think it took about 2 minutes for each one, and most of that time was spent waiting for a firmware update. The colors are nice, and they are sufficiently bright, but what I really enjoy is the automation available through the app. I have the outdoor light set on a schedule, and the other lights can be placed in away mode to randomly turn on and off during the scheduled window you specify, making it appear that the host is occupied. I live in a rural part of Colombia (in South America) and crime can be a problem here, so I have a little more peace of mind when I'm away from the house. Other houses near me have alarm systems, but the police are almost non-existent here, and I hear false alarms almost every day, so hopefully "los ladrones" will choose another house to target. No problems with WIFI connectivity, the only thing you do have to consider is if the power is off for an extended time, then you may have to reconnect the light to the app, it only takes a minute, and I only had to do it one time. ... show more

  • Not Compatible with Google Home - Irregular responses - What a joke.
Style: 4 pack Multicolor
I bought the 4 pack to light up my kitchen. If you like yellow lighting, they are pretty bright, but the white is in the middle and it's not nearly as bright, but it'll work I suppose. The far end of "white" makes everything look blue. I didn't realize I would have to disconnect my phones wifi, and connect to the light bulbs wifi, and then give the bulb my wifi password EACH TIME! I mean, you'd think I could do one and then it would inform the others, but no. The entire 12-step procedure has to be done for each individual bulb. When you go to integrate these into your Google Home, you will get this message: "No Compatible devices were found in your Tapo account." Oh fun. One of the four likes to disconnect from the app, and turn itself off whenever it wants. And I've only had these for 1 day at this point. I have 22 Hue bulbs in my house, and they just work. So easy. I only bought these Tapo garbage bulbs because they were on sale for $6 a bulb, and I could get all 4 bulbs for less than 1 Philips Hue bulb. I guess you get what you pay for. ... show more
