The recommended price for these bulbs is vicious. However, shop around and you can find them for around 45 bucks. Once you get over the sticker shock, you will find that these bulbs are very bright (I can believe the 1600 lumen claim), they don’t fail over time (like so many led bulbs do), they have a high 90+ color rendition index (that’s nice light to be in) at least in the white spectrum, they can reproduce almost any color of light, they connect quickly, behave reliably, and the hue bridge + app gives you tremendous control over how your lighting works. You can buy cheaper bulbs, but the Philips ecosystem works properly. My family are largely technophobes. They would not have anything to do with an app. However, these bulbs in combination with a Hue Tap and Dial switch, operate as easily as any ‘switch it on at the wall’ type lighting. I love that you can customize the colors of this lamp to set the mood of the room, however you do have to turn the lamp on before you can use it which for me is a downside. The bulb also tends to have a subtle flicker of color contrast change when you do make a custom color, its not something super annoying but when you notice it, its hard to ignore. ... show more

Got this for a stairwell that had only 1 switch located at the top of the stairs so that we could combine with 2 Aurora rotart switches adding a second switch downstairs. No Hue Bridge and never using the Bluetooth/wifi functions on the App so can't speak to any of those functions. The combo with 2 Aurora switches worked perfect. An expensive setup but cheaper and less permanent than running new wiring in a 140 year old house lol. It is definitely a bright bulb too and gives off more heat than other lower wattage Hue bulbs but that's to be expected. With LEDs that heat should only shorten the lifespan of the bulb itself rather than be any kind of actual risk. Color temp is pleasant too - not too warm, not too cool - fine in daytime or evening in the hallway. Dims nicely with no flicker or stutters. ... show more

    • Fixes the single biggest weakness in the Hue system - acceptable color temp.
Color: White Size: 1 Pack
One of the biggest weaknesses of the Hue system was that the bulbs would get to roughly the brightness of a 60 watt bulb, but no higher. Weirdly, you could get bulbs that turned purple, but you couldn't get the equivalent of a 75 watt or 100 watt incandescent bulb, even though there are many places where you want that much light. This solves that problem. It has maximum output equivalent to a 100 watt incandescent bulb, which you can dim down to whatever level you need. The only downside is that it has no ability to adjust color temperature. Fortunately, the color is a clean soft white, which was likely deliberately selected to annoy as few people as possible. It isn't that harsh cool white that makes everything look like a hospital waiting room. Instead, it is just warm enough not to be offensive to those of us who prefer the traditional, incandescent warm light. Philips apparently still does not grasp that plenty of people want 75 or 100 watt equivalent versions of their smart bulbs, as the advertising for this bulb shows it being put in garages and utility rooms. I bought these thinking they might have terrible light quality that is only suitable for a garage. But these are fine for your living space, and while my lower wattage "white ambience" Hue bulbs do ultimately provide a more pleasing light than these, the difference is subtle enough that you shouldn't avoid these just because you can't tweak the color temp. If you need a brighter bulb somewhere and you are already invested in the Hue system, these are a very welcome addition. ... show more
