  • Hard to beat, for the price
These camera’s are hard to beat for the price. They are rugged, and just continue to work if installed right. There are other reviews with samples of the image quality - it’s what you’d expect for $30, probably a little better even. Decent, 2k image with night vision. I’m not going to focus on this as much as a couple of other aspects of this product that I was pleasantly surprised by after install. These are: The app’s simplicity and streamlined functionality, and the actual camera hardware being compatible with almost every ip camera configuration standard. The app is surprisingly simple yet useful using the camera’s local micro sd card storage, and can be used locally on the LAN without any subscription, and does not have any blocked features or limited functionality when opting out of the optional cloud subscription. This is much more of a bonus than I had expected. I hadn’t even expected to use the app at all after setup. Which isn’t necessary after the initial setup, which includes paring the camera with your tp-link ID. Once done, you can set up what they call a “camera account”, which is in essence setting the camera’s local address for use with third party software and NVR’s via ONVIF (s) standard, or using the RSTP protocol. Overall great for the price. Only negative I have found is that the frame-rate is set at 15fps and absolutely can’t be changed or reconfigured in any way to manually change the bitrate. The resolution options are what you’d expect (720,1080,2K) but just keep in mind that it’s all at 15fps. Not really a big deal as much for me, something to know. Oh, and the included 9v-0.4A power supply is the only option for power, PoE is NOT supported. The camera’s stream can be connected via ethernet or wifi, but not powered over ethernet as well. They work for a long time, and are $30, you can’t really go wrong. ... show more

  • Very cost effect and purposeful security camera.
I like that the Tapo Camera is made by a manufacturer that I am familiar with TP-LInk. I have used one of their wi-fi range extenders for years and it has been an efficient item. I chose Tapo for that reason, as well as a nice price point with a BLACK FRIDAY incentive. I have not been a fan of video cameras, and had resisted them for privacy and hacking concerns but I have concerns with invasive neighbors and their animals and am gathering video evidence for the police and prosecutors. This camera with it's local storage capacity fits my needs perfectly. This was the second of three Tapo Camera purchases I made and all are in operation now. The camera comes with an APP as well similar to the TP-Link APP. It provides easy viewing of the live cameras as well as access to the stored material. Tapo makes available a cloud Storage option and provided 30 days free to try it out. It also has the SD Card Storage as well, which is what I use. [ EDIT ] : after becoming more familiar with the strorage options for recorded material and reading others with the same concerns ( unsecured cloud or functionality of the MicroSd Card management system ) I offer this answer from Tapo / TP-Link: Start Manufacturer Info : How can I view the video recordings of camera from the SD card on a computer? TC60, TC65, TC70, Tapo C100, Tapo C200, Tapo C210, Tapo C310 07-14-2020 121,340 Please plug the SD to your computer's SD card slot or an SD card adapter. If you are using the SD card adapter, please insert it into a USB port on your computer. For Windows: Depending on the settings of your computer, a dialog box may appear. If a dialog box does not appear, open Windows File Explorer to locate and select the SD card on the left side of the window. For MAC: If you are using the SD card for the first time, your Mac will install the necessary driver software automatically. A device icon will appear on your Mac display. Double click the icon. You can also click “Finder” to open the Finder window and choose the icon for SD card under Devices. The contents will display in a separate window. What if the recorded videos have no sound? The recorded video uses G.711 as the standard for audio companding. Some players do not support the codec such as the Windows Media Player, so the video can be played on Windows with no sound. Please use a player that supports the G.711 codec such as the VLC on Windows. It can also be played properly on IOS. For Android, please use the player that supports the G.711 codec as well. What if the video recordings cannot be played? The SD card will be divided into multiple MP4 files automatically once formatted on the Tapo app, and all of the folders will be named as xxxxxxxx_000000_tp00001.mp4, xxxxxxxx_000000_tp00002.mp4, and so on. These MP4 files cannot be played or opened as there are no recordings in them. These files are reserved for the subsequent file to write. The actual video recordings will overwrite the files one by one. Reserved files cannot be played: Normally recorded videos (the prefix of the file will be replaced with the date and time): c320ws c210 c310 End of manufactures Information. At this point I have not mounted the cameras outside, as I am trying out different angles as not to point the camera into my neighbors business, but protect my own. The picture shows the Tapo camera sitting on my interior window sill with an eye on the driveway. My intention is to hang them from the eaves or higher up with an addition of an extension mounting bracket. ... show more
