  • Everyone should own one of these
Style: Dry Lift
This is one of the best purchases I’ve ever made. I was skeptical, because watching the video of this thing getting run over by a package car made it seem too good to be true. Then when it showed up and weighed nothing I thought I got scammed. But I was wrong. This thing is super durable! The install took a matter of seconds, and that’s with two people who have shoulder injuries. It was very easy to maneuver the tank onto it, which I was nervous about, since it is so lightweight (I have a 40 gallon tank). But the thing didn’t even flinch. Plus the pan itself moved easily to where I needed to put it. But the best part is that my brand new tank is actually defective, and leaking out of the bottom seal. I never would have noticed had it not been for the pan retaining the water, which made it very easy to see, and prevented it from running out onto the floor. This is an absolute must have. Very happy with this product. Stop using that pile of bricks, this is exponentially better! ... show more

  • Costs roughly twice as much as the flimsy pans, but worth every extra cent!
Style: Dry Lift
I recently decided to replace our 21 year-old 40 gallon gas water heater that sat directly on the concrete basement floor with a hybrid electric (heat pump) unit of the same nominal capacity. My goal was to elevate it to the level of the furnace's condensate pump so that I could use the one remaining port for condensate from the water heater and for a drain pan, something we didn't have under the old water heater. I started out with one of those $12-ish Oatey plastic drain pans from the local plumbing supply house, but was really disappointed with how flimsy it was. Also, it was clear that if there were ever a leak, the water heater would sit in any water that was below the exit hole for the drain line -- a potential source of rust. At the same time, I was looking for at least 5.5" of elevation to get high enough to make it from the pan to the pump, but not so much that I couldn't remove the air filter for periodic cleanings. I ended up using four 4" x 8" x 16" concrete blocks (which I learned are like dimensional lumber in that they are actually smaller than the advertised size, in this case 3.625" x 7.625" x 15.625"). I arranged them in a 24" x 24" x 3.625" tall pattern that left an approximately 8" x 8" hole in the middle, then split one more block to mostly fill in the central gap. On top of those blocks, I used a 24" x 24" x 2" thick concrete paver and then placed the Tough Pan on top of the paver. That got me just over the 5.5" of rise I needed. I glued the blocks to the floor and to the paver with construction adhesive rated for concrete and then filled in the 0.5" gaps between the concrete blocks with mortar. When placing the 157 lbs. water heater on the Tough Pan, I noticed that it didn't flex at all. After it was hooked up to the lines, it was filled with 288 lbs. of water, for a total of 445 lbs., well below the Tough Pan's 700 lb. rating. There were zero signs of stress. The Tough Pan lives up to its name! I love the design -- if there's ever a leak, any water that doesn't flow out of the port will sit below the bottom of the heater and eventually evaporate. It was definitely worth the modest extra cost and I highly recommend this product! ... show more

  • Good design and sturdy
Style: Dry Lift
We purchased this to go under a rain barrel to divert any overflow away from the foundation. It is very sturdy and has no problem holding the weight of a 50 gallon rain barrel. Our only issue (again, we are using it for a different purpose than it was designed for) is that it holds some water in it and doesn't drain completely. I have tossed mosquito repellant in the bottom to keep them from hatching. ... show more

  • The only tray you need!
Style: Dry Lift
This is it if you going to put a tray under your water heater. This is high quality stuff and the way it is engineered is perfect! Very happy with it. I am a water heater installer making income on the side. And from now onwards will recommend this tray to my clients.

  • Very tough yet flexible
Style: Dry Lift
I was actually skeptical when I read the review where the person's was able to "walk" it under the water heater but indeed it's flexible enough I was able to do it byyself with great care. Yet once underneath the ribbing easily holds a full 40gal tank. Very nice.
