  • SMART Failure within one day.
It can be a bit overwhelming to look at all the hard drive choices available. SMR, CMR, 5,400-7,200RPM, NAS versions, and then tiers within each type. When I'd narrowed it down to like 5 I started looking at star ratings, and this one had 4.4! I did not however drill down to reviews for the exact unit I ordered (6tb/256mb Cache), which are utterly abysmal. Within 24 hours I had a SMART Failure pop up on HWinfo. I was monitoring temps of CPU/GPU on a new build, and was scrolling down to check the health on my year old WD 550 NVME (100% and working great) and saw the big red YES letters for Drive Failure on this brand new drive. Literally all I'd done is transfer over about 1tb of data. Well ventilated case (Be Quiet 500dx with an added intake fan), ambient temp of about 68f in the room (I'm a cheapskate). I think the drive hit somewhere in the mid 40’s, well within spec. What the actual heck? The only disk drives I've ever had a failure on were simply worn out. One was an 80gb drive from the middle ages that sounded like a baseball card in bicycle spokes when it was running, and a very old 1tb Seagate external drive that was our double backup drive for nearly a decade. That’s it, and I’ve had especially good luck with Toshiba so figured this would be a good bet. It was a bit noisier than I expected, probably related to this seek error, but didn’t seem out of the ordinary. So once this failure popped up I contacted Toshiba intending to do a replacement through them vs Amazon as it wasn't Amazons fault. Firstly, the Toshiba page regarding warranty reads like a gray area minefield of 'we are going to try and deny this no matter what', and the person I got on the phone said they do refunds, not replacements, and it will probably take 4-6 weeks. Um, no? Pretty much everything I just read in the reviews regarding their handling of Warranty issues for retail customers is 100% spot on. I contacted Amazon, who set me up with a replacement order. I’ll update this review once I’ve had the replacement for a while. If it’s also a piece of crap, it should be a doozy of an update because I WILL be going through Toshiba next time. If works fine, they might get 1 more star because 50% of the 2 drives I received still failed. Yes I realize the picture is grainy, that's what you get taking a picture of a screen with your phone. • These are not what they used to be
I have purchased many Toshiba drives in the past and had great luck with them. This was actually to add a 4th drive to a raid 5 array of the same series more than 4 years old. This one last 27 days exactly and started having bad sectors and slow downs. Barely had the chance to use the drive. Luckily I'm still within my 30days with Amazon. For the price your better off with faster and more reliable NAS and enterprise drives from WD and Seagate. When the old Toshiba units go I will replace them all rather than swap in these new versions. Lesson learned, no more Toshiba HDD's. ... show more

  • Nice quiet drive
Nice hard drive it works really well . The drive installed in a partitioned into three segments. There is no issues with install and everything went fine. It formatted pretty quickly for a large drive and has been extremely quiet. I put it in immediately under a 75% used backup and it had no problems or errors. The drive is extremely quiet. And no vibration or anything of concerns like that. I have ran several checks and found no issues I did find the drive to be very quick compared to a similar size slower Drive and the difference is were exceptional. Enclosing the drive work is expected I gave it a couple of weeks to see if any noise developed the only thing that I did notice oh, was that it runs pretty warm. Now I have this in a external reader using a 3.0 USB port so it cools off pretty well I would think for being in an external situation. I am unsure how warm this would get if inside a case. So I cannot comment internally how this works but I did not find any noise or read and write ... show more

  • Extremely low Quality, Had to return TWO in row.
Extremely low quality hard drives, have bad sectors and are unformattable RIGHT from the factory. Two in a row unformattable, so unreliable even AMAZON refuses to back these hard drives up. Finally had to go with a brand that's more reliable than Toshiba.

  • Not bad.
I got this to supplement the storage on my home PC, it works well enough for the intended purpose and I have few complaints. My only complaints are that its no solid state in terms of tranfer rate obviously, which is to be expected for a drive like this. And second, the drive is comsiderably louder than expected. Even with headphones on while watching a show or playing a game the drive makes audible noise. Its not so bad normally but any downloads or mildly intensive processes will cause it to make noise loud enough to be picked up by a headset mic. ... show more

  • Seems Like a Solid Hard Drive so Far
I have rated this Hard Drive 4 stars solely on it's price and speed. The true measure of a HD in my eyes is how long it lasts. Will I need to replace this HD in a year, and if so, is there a warranty? I am using this drive to store my movies and tv shows on my HTPC, which may be a little overkill for my purpose. This is a replacement for my first Toshiba Hard Drive, which was also 6TB, but with 128 cache. The great thing is these drives have a 3 year manufacturer's warranty, so I did get the first one replaced (It lasted about 20 months). If this one doesn't last, I will need to change my rating and look mat other brands ... show more

  • This drive is louder than I am used to.
I generally wait a month before doing a review. But figured it’s a hard drive. My office is quiet and I hear this hard drive constantly. The equipment it’s installed in is not my work or personal PC workstation. Those machines are quiet. For this hardware all I needed was a 6T drive so I grabbed this one. I can deal with it but have found drives that make noise aren’t of the highest quality. Gave this 3 stars overall but watching for signs of trouble. ... show more

  • Slow to react then quick once being used.
Just like the title says, going to access this drive and it is slow to react, as if you are waking it from a nap. A very noticeable several seconds. Then, once in use it is rather quick for an hdd. Used as an extra storage drive in a new system (AMD 5900x, B550 MB etc etc).
