  • This requires almost two reviews - Toy or Practice Item
I mentioned in the headline that this Keyboard needs to be thought of one of two ways. The most interesting is as something to amuse kids and adults that still have that urge to mess with things (AKA a fun side). This is really fun to play around with. A few comments about the design are required. First of all, the opening of the battery storage could be made a lot simpler if they changed the design only slightly. It's not easy to open it up. And when you put it away, you'll want to take out the batteries since it turns itself on while you roll it up. Also, the gadget is so versatile with all the sounds that can be played but there is no clear way to know which sound or rhythm you have chosen. Not sure how you would fix that but you should be able to tell what sound has been selected. However, don't forget this toy is less than $40. Which is why it falls into the toy category. If you are thinking that you will use this for piano practice, I don't think it was made for that. It is hard to tell what extra rhythm or drum sound key has been pushed. Some of the actual piano keys give a sound like you double-tapped the piano key but you didn't. When playing multiple keys (chords) the keys don't all play together so they don't blend well. Also, there is a setting key for something called "Chords" which has "S" and "F" and there is nothing in the directions about that. All the criticism aside, it really is fun to play around with and I would think that this would be a great tool to introduce a young child to the piano without the huge expense of buying a full-size keyboard just remember to plug in a headset so that you don't have to listen to them play around with sounds. ... show more

  • This is a great digital musical instrument for the practicing pianist on the go...
For the amature keyboard enthusiast, or the inspired adolescent who just discovered the emotionality of music, this little flexible digital keyboard will make an excellent gift. It has great sound quality. The rubberized keyboard is extremely durable. The keys are instantaneously responsive. The speaker, speaker housing, and push button controls are all functional and nicely designed; as well as durable and impact resistant. The biggest drawback to its overall portability and design is the lack of an internal and integrated rechargeable battery unit. 3 AA batteries are required (but not included) to truly take this keyboard on the road. Otherwise, you will need a fixed, plug in power source to play. Still a great gift idea for the budding musician in your family - or that friend, who, in a key of F***-Major, hangs around the fringes, with freaky hair and fidgety fingers, wearing that frayed Foreigner concert t-shirt for a straight fortnight..., you know the one I'm talking about... Purchase this digital piano for him, and piviot his perception to more productive path... ... show more

  • Useful as a Toy or an Instrument
I got this product with my daughter in mind, thinking she'd enjoy using it to supplement her piano lessons. She's enjoyed using it but so has her younger sister, who basically treats it like a toy - and it definitely serves both functions. Once you unroll it and get it plugged in (there's a USB connection port) it's basically good to go, and it doesn't require much effort - the keys work at a light touch and the sound quality is better than I expected. This isn't as high-end as the full-scale keyboard I had as a kid but for the price it's well worth the shot. I don't regret getting it and hope it will prove useful for both kids for years to come. ... show more

  • Its pretty cool but of course not for serious play
This is mostly for having something on the go you can practice finger placement and hear notes for beginners or maybe someone who likes to write songs on the go and wants a simple device to hear notes on. It does not have a great piano sound. Just a basic keyboard sound with a slight "tinny" aftereffect. It feels nice to the touch, but keys are kind of sensitive so if you leave your finger on for too long it will play the key twice. Also, you cannot play too many multiple keys at once since it seems to not recognize you are playing them after touching a certain number of keys all at once. So, think simple jingles and beginner songs, not Mozart or Beethoven. My son has a fun time with the added beats and likes to play around with it. I might pick up trying to play also at some point, we shall see. It came with a standard box with some contoured foam around the device for storage, but I took two stars off for the terrible idea of using a press start button instead of a slide one, since once you put batteries in it and try to store it, just the rolled keys pressing on the control module will turn it on and you will have to take the batteries out each time. I tried every which way to roll it and every way still pressed on that button. The only way was rolling it tightly away from the buttons and with the top propped open. Not really thought out. ... show more

  • A lot of fun, Great Sound
It is a very sensitive keyboard that responds well and has multiple background accompaniments. It rolls up compactly when you are done. The only downside is that you do need a long flat hard surface to use it.

  • Quality, and fun!
I thought this was just going to be kind of a cute, fun toy. But it's actually a substancial Instrument. It has so many cool features, and I just love playing it. The keyboard is very responsive. So many ways to alter the sound, and add rhythms, etc ... Comes with a USB cord, and also takes batteries. I plugged it into my power bank. An adaptor would have been nice , but it kind of encourages portability, which is fun about this type of thing. ... show more
