  • Great Sounds, Limited Usability, Lots of Toms, No Double Pedal
The Rock Solid EZX sounds fantastic, the drum tones are warm, big, and sound like what heavy rock drums should sound like. There are tons of sampled patterns for hard rock. If you want something for soft rock, jazz, pop, look elsewhere. On the flip side, if you want metal, this kit sounds great with DFH patterns, but this expansion pack has zero double pedal work provided in the grooves. There are one or two fills that have a little double pedal work, but that’s it. This is not the kit you want for stoner metal type music. The tones are really clean, and way produced. Meaning, they sound great with hard radio rock. One of the best things about this pack is that it comes with a lot of tom work, and build up tom hits that have been missing in a lot of the other packs. The kick sounds amazing and I wish I could use it with some of my other kits. The major downside for me are the grooves, they are laid out in song format (which I CANNNOT STAND!) but they seem useable if you’re willing to cut sections from the grooves to make your own songs. This is my constant beef with Toontrack, they nailed it with the groove patterns on DFH, but they keep using the song format. I’m sure if you just want to use the song format to put quick ideas down, or if you’re using an electronic kit it’d be great, but if you’re trying to create your own original pieces of work, then it makes it more difficult than it needs to be. So far, I’m really impressed with the sounds. I’m not sure how much I’ll use them because I prefer things to be a little dirtier, but I think I’ll use some of the tom work, and build up patterns. Way better than having to create them myself. The snare sounds are great and there’s enough room to find a snare to fit just about anything heavy. All the kick drums sound great, not a bad one in the bunch. The china’s are a little weak, but you can just turn them off. There’s another cymbal that wasn’t my favorite, but I just selected another. Overall, great sounds but still not as good as my standard for almost all my music, DFH. One other beef: If you go to the Toontrack website and listen to the samples, there a few songs for this kit that feature double kick, which is most likely played with an electronic kit using MIDI. But it’s misleading to most people who are just checking these kits out, and they buy it, thinking they’re getting one thing, and getting something else. The samples sound should just be what you get in the package, or at least have some kind of notice letting people know that they aren’t getting those grooves. Biggest Fan!~ ... show more

  • Almost a Roland TD-20... on my DTXpress III
My eyes are set on eventually acquiring a Roland TD-20 or Yamaha DTX950K, but while that happens (when I have a bit more the US$6,000 to spare on such acquisition) I needed someway to coax my tried and true Yamaha DTxpress III to sound closer to an acoustic drum kit as possible. Enter Toontrack's EZDrummer series. Soon after getting the base product my interest on this technology only went to 11, looking around within the many expansion packs Toontrack offers I settled on the heavy metal sounds of the Rock Solid pack. It is simply amazing - the one caveat is that I had to fine tune my DTX pad assignments on the controller to match what EZDrummer expected over the MIDI channel, but once that is done (and you save your presets both in Toontrack and on the DTX controller, you are all set. Awesome sound, simply awesome. ... show more

  • Absolute Power
I buy a lot of ez-x expansions for EZ Drummer, so I took a chance on this one. Honestly, it is now my go-to kit. The sound is huge, great for heavy rock like Van Halen, Motley Crue, Scorpions, or any other big 80s rock. I have the DFH expansion- awesome for metal and super heavy funk, but Rock Solid fits all my projects. I really gotta hand it to Ryan Vikedal & Randy Staub for the overall quality of this ez-x. I absolutely despise Nickelback, so I was a little hesitant since Vikedal used to play with them, but I figure if he was smart enough to leave he must be a genius and worthy of this purchase. ... show more

  • THE best
I have them all. Yes every ezx expansion pack and every Superior Drummer pack. This is my favorite, the one I always keep going back to. For the one. 3 star review to state the snare has little impact but no smack to them is just weird and misleading...or just wrong as heck. The snares are incredible and the power of this pack is amazing. I use it in a few different styles from folk, rock, metal and progressive. Get it...simple as that. ... show more

  • Not my fav but not bad
The snares have little impact. They sound nice but no smack to them. The kicks and toms are a bit bottom heavy for my taste but we'll call that opinion. The grooves are very basic. not bad, not great, just like the samples on in this ez pack.

  • Bombastic
My "go-to" expansion pack for big drums. Marvelous just like all Toontrack products. My friend, who knows the difference, described my first song using them as "bombastic".
