  • A good basic, simple machine
This welder is a little different than I expected, but not in a bad way. I'm not a professional welder. I've never used a wire feed welder prior to purchasing this welder. I have a fair amount of experience with stick welders. I purchased this to have something more versatile than the Zeny 160 stick welder I purchased last year. A multiprocess welder makes sense for a capable hobbyist. Did some looking around and settled on this one, seemed to have the best capabilities, cost, and other decent reviews. Unboxed and everything was there, except a roll of wire (which was not supposed to be there, my mistake). Put in a roll of E71T-11 went out and ran a couple test beads. This is when I figured out things were a bit simpler than I expected. The amperage knob is more of a set and forget knob; it controls amperage, voltage and wire speed. There is a chart in the manual that provides information on this. Being new to wire feed, this made the learning curve very short. I was able to get decent welds with good penetration very quickly and not worry about figuring out the wire speed and voltage. The upper knob does fine tune the voltage if necessary but this does not show on the display. After a couple test beads I spent the next 5 hours repairing some worn/damaged equipment and fabricating a firebox rack for my smoker. Running 100A or less I never surpassed the machine's duty cycle. Only had one minor instance of burn back. By the end of the day I had used about 3/4# of wire (0.030) and had all of my repairs done. It works, it works very well. It's a good learning machine. I think it is fairly easy to use. It's quite portable and light. A couple co-workers are very intrigued and thinking about buying their own. A couple of cons: The grounding clamp is kinda cheap and I replaced it with one from HF. The cables (ground and stinger) are on the short side. The wire feed cable is short too, but didn't cause any problems. ... show more

  • great little welder
I've used it for 1 project so far, with .035 Flux core, and no complains here. Did well enough on 1/4" plate. Fair amount of splatter but I probably didn't have something set right. I'm no pro welder by any means, but the weld it leaves comes out nice enough that I didn't feel the need to grind down the weld. One thing I missed initially that I got sorted before getting too far along was the feed wheel needs flipped to correctly handle .035 wire. Once on correctly it feeds nice and smooth. No complaints for a low cost welder (didn't get the gas version) that would fit in a backpack. Weighs probably 25 lbs with gun and a spool of wire in it ... show more

  • Good as a first welder for Stick and Fluxcore but Horrible Mig.
Style: 250A Aluminum MIG Welder
I bought this because I wanted the speed advantage of Mig Welding but this machine is really for a begginer welder. When I got it, the first thing that I tested was with fluxcore .030 wire and I really liked it, so I thought I made a good purchase but a few weeks later when I went to use it with Mig 20/80 gas the first thing I got was a burned contact tip then after replacing the tip I got a burned nozzle... too much backburn using Mig with this machine (with Miller machine burnback are rare and usually dont destroy the contact tip). So for me this machine is no good for Mig Welding... I am not going to be spending hours testing different setting to find out what mig setting works. Now lets go over Stick welding with e7018ac... for 3/32 this machine works great but for 1/8 rod it runs horrible... keep in mind that setting are not accurate so you will have to play with it and take notes(I keep my notes in an excel sheet in my cellphone) Fluxcore and its price when it is on sale($300) are the 2 things that makes this machine great as a 1st welder for someone getting started in welding. Fluxcore synergic setting work quite well... so if you plan to use this machine mainly for Fluxcore and for e7018ac with 3/32 rods then this machine offer great value as you can actually do a lot of things with only these 2 options. I have not tested for aluminum as i dont have an Argon Tank. I decided to get this machine and not the YesWelder 250 pro because of cost but after using this machine and watching some reviews on youtube on lack of accuracy in Yeswelder I will assume YesWelder will have similar issues as the Tooliom so I will just look for another Brand for MigWelding... Probably Esab) ... show more
