Description

The instant 1 New York Times and USA Today bestseller, a story about a woman caught in a dangerous web of obsessive love, trying to find a way out before it’s too late… this new, updated edition is a “barn-burner” (New York Post) and Colleen Hoover’s darkest romantic thriller since Verity. Sloan will go through hell and back for those she loves. And she does so, every single day. Caught up with the alluring Asa Jackson, a notorious drug trafficker, Sloan has finally found a lifeline to cling to, even if it’s meant compromising her morals. She was in dire straits trying to pay for her brother’s care until she met Asa. But as Sloan became emotionally and economically reliant on him, he in turn developed a disturbing obsession with her—one that becomes increasingly dangerous every day. When undercover DEA agent Carter enters the picture, Sloan’s surprised to feel an immediate attraction between them, despite knowing that if Asa finds out, he will kill him. And Asa has always been a step ahead of everyone in his life, including Sloan. No one has ever gotten in his way. No one except Carter. Together, Sloan and Carter must find a way out before it’s too late… Read more

  • So good!
Loved this book! New twists & turns kept coming up when I least expected them to! I kept thinking how surprised I was that she kept surprising me. As usual, some of her sex scenes are fairly graphic, but the book was worth overlooking those if they aren’t your thing.

  • So frustrating
Threw will be spoilers This book was a good read but incredibly infuriating. Carter/Luke is the dumbest character ever written. This is not an exaggeration. Everything he does is the stupidest thing he could do in a that situation. The author puts poor Sloane through the ringer. She is SA'd several times by multiple people and even has to give with knowing that Asa is her baby's father. The author couldn't even give her that tiny ray of light at the end and make Luke the baby daddy. What's really infuriating though is that even with everything that Asa puts her through she still wants him the moment he shows her any compassion. She responds to him with urgency at any tiny semblance of being treated well. Which is why the more you read you realize this isn't a love story between Sloane and Carter/ Luke, it's a love story between Sloane and Asa. I've read 3 books by Colleen Hoover and for some reason she is obsessed with painting the abuser as a sympathetic figure. Asa is the most fleshed out character in this book. He's by far the smartest character and is superior to Carter/Luke in every way. Now this isn't as important as everything else but the undercover aspect od this book was laughably bad. Carter never does one second of police work. He never investigates anything. He never does any work for Asa. All of his time is spent trying to get into Sloane's pant and therefore putting both their lives in danger every chance he gets and jeopardizing the work of whatever cops are actually doing work on the case. It's hilarious that she doesn't even attempt to do anything with that plot. Ultimately I enjoyed this book but I just felt terrible for Sloane. The part about the baby being Asa's was just unnecessary cruelty. ... show more

  • Great read!
The story line was wild! I was interested through the entire book. The story asa told about his childhood tore at my heart strings. This book depicts real life struggles and mental illness. I know some people were not pleased but for a writers block book i thought this was great!

  • Great book!
I read this book for the first time through my kindle unlimited subscription, I loved it so much that I bought it when it came out on paperback. I’ve probably read it three times now. This is definitely one of her darker books, so I would caution anyone to read the overview before reading this. Definitely not for anyone under 18 either. But it’s an easy read and will keep you entertained until the very end! ... show more

Thanks for sharing this book. It was an excellent book. I enjoyed the different story line, than Colleen’s normal stories. Not that I don’t enjoy those as well.
