Been using TomTom exclusively as my GPS provider nearly 20 years now. Today they lost me forever. The best feature of my prior version was that it would re-route me around traffic issues and alert me to delays on my route. I overlooked the fact that the several different TomTom models I owned all were extremely "buggy" and glitchy, and I still had to sometimes pull out a map to find out where it had stranded me. But this is the final insult... I just bought the GO 52 and found out you have to sync to a smart phone to get the traffic information. I have been made fun of and looked down on by friends, colleagues, and my kids for the last five years for "still using a GPS" instead of using a smart phone like everyone else. Do you not realize that your primary customer is someone who either doesn't have a smart phone or doesn't want to use it for directions? Good bye forever. ... show more

Problem Resolved. This is my fourth Tom Tom GPS and it had a major flaw. Over and over again, it sends you to the wrong place. None of the other units I had ever did this. For example - A trip to Costco in East Hanover, NJ sent me to a cemetery on a road 1/4 mile behind Costco. A trip to Monmouth Mall took me 1/4 of mile north of the mall. Strange routing at times, even to streets that don't exist. It also didn't recognized some major streets. I called TomTom and on the second call, I got someone extremely knowledgeable that walked me through fixing the problem. The downloadable owner’s manual that is available on the product page from Amazon is a crying shame as far as installation into your car is concerned. According to that document, this TomTom is windshield mount, only. According to that document, "some TomTom products" have an expandable SD card memory slot with NO explanation of how to get to it on this TomTom Go 52. So many people have said this TomTom does not have a memory card slot. They must have only read the PDF file like I did. Yes, this TomTom has an SD memory card slot. Yes, this product is dash mountable. Use the setup instructions that came in the box! The "mount" boss is clipped on to the back of this TomTom and is removeable and reversible for dash mount. The memory card slot is underneath that removable piece. I had to ask myself, what instructions could possible be in that box that aren’t in a 136-page PDF file on how to use this thing. I drive an older vehicle, so it’s nice to get text messages read aloud. The phone is clear on the other end of the call. I like the fact that it tells you your destination is on the right or left. It was a breeze to connect to my phone. Time will tell on how the traffic and reroute systems work. The computer voice (the only voice that gives street names) is ok. If you are a long time TomTom user, there is a definite learning curve to using this one. ... show more

Upon receiving this device, I went to my car to set it up. When it got to the point to connect to my phone, it tells me that I have to download the "tomtom drive app" before I can connect the Bluetooth. The problem is that when I went to the app to download, in red letters, it tells me that that app is not available in my country. I then decided to go to my computer, went to the google app store, and it shows on there that it can be installed. So I installed it from there. I tried to use the voice to speak an address to it, but not once did it get what I was saying correct, not even close. It wasn't because of background noise because I had it completely quiet. That was actually the main reason I chose to get this navigation system, so it appears to be pointless so far. But I will use it for what I got it for, my job. After I use it, I'll update this review to what I think about it at that time, especially compared to Garmin. **UPDATE: I took it to work and compared it to the Garmin, and I'll stick with Garmin. There are new roads which Garmin shows but this TOMTOM doesn't. It may not show the names yet, but the roads are there. But with this TOMTOM, the roads aren't even there, even with the newest map updates. So, I returned this and sticking with Garmin. ... show more

Clear screen, would be better if a little larger. Slow to upload map updates by Wifi. Has Voice Recognition, but you have to press several buttons to turn it own, then have few responses available so hardly worth the effort. Like the Record Route feature so can record how you got somewhere, then use it again later as the route you want to take-- handy when the route you want to take is not the "best route" selected by TomTom. Spoken voice only fair; mispronounces many street names (some so badly you can't even recognize them). Overall not a bad GPS. ... show more

    • Beware at this time this device doesn’t work with iPhone

This device doesn’t work with my iPhone 8 I found out after trying to get it to work for several days. I called tomtom tech support twice with this issue. The second time I called the tech asked me what kind of phone I had. I told him an iPhone 8 and he asked what version of software I have on my phone. I said that I had the latest update released 13.2.3. He then asked me if I could change to an android or something and the device would probably work with that phone. I told him that I of course wasn’t going to change my phone out that I would just return the device. He also was kind enough to send me an email explaining the issues with the iPhone not staying connected with this device. The issue is that you have to download the tomtom MyDrive app from the Apple App Store and then connect the MyDrive app to the tomtom go 52 device using Bluetooth. Well my phone will connect with the device but the MyDrive app won’t stay connected. In order to get traffic reports and the other services the MyDrive app provides it must be connected so it’s useless to me as I perched it for the traffic updates. It will take you where you’re going though but without traffic information. I have since purchased the tomtom 1525tm and I’m hoping for the best lol. ... show more
