  • Wow...I wasn't expecting this type of game....
Love? Love doesn't come close to how I feel about this game! This game is...beautiful. Tokyo Twilight is a visual novel game with strategic battles/fights with paranormal enemies. The graphics are superb. I mean they are gorgeous. They look as if they are 3D (moving clouds, moths with moving wings, etc.) but the game is completely 2D. My favorite aspect of the graphics would be the environments-- some of them are beautiful while others are down right creepy. The mechanics are...a little weird. They are inventive but they can be challenging. For example...the player characters actions (what they say, do, etc) are completely controllable but...to control their actions the player must use a wheel. The wheel has several emotions...anger (depicted as a fist), love (depicted as a heart), sad (depicted as a eye shedding tear), etc. The player must choose which emotion they want their character to react, which then in turn leads to another wheel which depicts other body parts. These new body parts represent HOW the character will act out their emotions. For example...when I first began the game...I had no idea how to work the wheel, so....when talking to a male NPC I chose a 'love' emotion and then a 'tongue' action, which caused the NPC to joke that I 'don't have to kiss him' and that he was helping me 'as a friend.' So, yeah....the mechanics take some getting use to. As for dialog...the majority of the game is TEXT based with some Japanese audio/phrasing thrown into the game. Surprisingly I enjoyed the game and didn't even notice the lack of voice work. I'm pretty sure it was due partly with the fast paced/creepy story and the background music which kept me occupied. This leads me to the soundtrack. It is killer. The music is a mix of rock-n-roll beats and orchestrated string pieces. Also...the rest of the audio (i.e. birds chirping, chattering of students in a class room, etc) is also great. It makes the game feel suspenseful and creepy and...alive. All in all....I love this game. I am beyond happy to have it in my collection. I recommend it to anyone who might be looking for a challenge or a change of pace. ... show more

  • I didn't have a good first impression but it grew on me.
To start: I dislike silent and shallow protagonists which we receive in this game but it's still fun and informal to play. The battle system is nothing like I played before and that's a good thing, even though I had a hard time learning it at first. I wish you could save the game anytime you want since it seems like forever when you get to save. I do like that the Start button is used as an "ignore the person" opinion that I had to stumble upon later. The reaction icons could've been explained as I had to find out what the first set of em meant and how they relate to the 2nd set of optional icons. I'm a fan of American voice acting which this game lacks to my disappointment, but since the story takes place in Tokyo Japan,it's more authentic(I would've still chosen the American voice option anyway lol). I must add: The CEO is HOT!!!!!!!! Oh,and if you're gay,you can flirt with the male characters!! ... show more

  • Enjoyable overall
The graphics are lovely and the gameplay is unique. I wish that it was fully voiced; there are only portions with voice acting and the only voice over option available is to have it in Japanese. I became VERY addicted to the Hypernatural board game that you can play in-game, which added hours and hours of additional gameplay and fun for me in addition to following the storyline. There isn't much of a tutorial, in fact the game throws you right in and lets you figure out how to navigate the emotions and senses. I found I pretty much never used anger or sadness, so I wonder how the game may change depending on what responses you choose for the main character you have. I can see it being fun playing through the game and just being a total maniac, indiscriminately either lashing out angrily or hitting on/trying to kiss just about everyone. I will definitely take a lot of chances when I replay the game someday. Overall, I really enjoyed this game. I played it through once, so I don't know about how things may pan out with New Game Plus or any alternate endings. ... show more
