Weve had a plastic shrimp peeler for years, not that the plastic did a bad job but you still needed to mess with the poo. This device take a bit of playing to get used to it, but it does a better of peeling plus taking poo with it. It doesnt get all the poo with every shrimp, some still need you need to get out with your fingers. But all in all its an improvement over the plastic. Watching all those customers videos sold me. We buy our uncleared shrimp from Costco. $20 a 3 lb bag. Just a stinky slow process to clean them. Until now. A wonderfully thought out device. Works perfectly. 5 seconds or less you done. Amazing

    • Great tool, if you eat a lot of shrimp.
I was a little skeptical about this product but figured why not try it. I live in a fishing village and eat a lot of shrimp during the season, we prefer to get them with shell on so we can make broth from them later on for soups etc.. This tool works as advertised, I will say I am not nearly as proficient as the video, but I like the results. Now, I will tell you it is either my newness to using the tool or just the side effect of the tool itself, but the shrimp when fished are not as neat looking as when they are shelled, sliced and cleaned by hand, but this tool is so much faster and for us we dont really care that they look a little rough, its not bad but if you wanted some really nice presented shrimp for a date night or your restaurant its probably not the tool for you. I would certainly buy it again and I will continue to use it, because to me the looks of the shrimp do not matter and it saves a ton of time. I am usually not a fan of unitaskers in the kitchen, but this one I give a thumbs up. ... show more

Excellent tool. Works better than the cheap plastic ones. There is a very sharp edge which protrudes on the underside which acts to butterfly or devein and does its job but be warned, it can cut you if you are not paying attention to the position of your hands while using it as I found out. Lots of blood from the side of my index finger. I am more careful now and will continue to use this. ... show more

    • Removes the vein and shell in one smooth pass
Once you hold it at the correct angle, the shrimp is peeled and de-veined all at once. The blade is holding its edge very well for as much use as we have given it. Highly recommend this tool.

    • Surprised I do not like it!
I think Toadfish makes the best oyster shucker out there and I own 30 . I expected to love this but I do not at all. I like the cheap red detainers that cost $5 (Challenge 50187 Shrimp Cleaner on Amazon) The first time I used this I sliced my finger which was my fault because I am so used to using the cheap deveiners that do not have a slicing blade on them I did not realize I had to be careful. The diameter of the end of the Toadstool deviser is too big and it does not slide in as easily as the cheap red ones. I also can not hold the shrimp the same way I do with the red one for fear of getting cut. Overall I can just fly with the cheap red one and it is very easy. The Toadstool is clunkier and takes me a lot longer and does not feel good in the hand. I have been working on tweaking my use of it in case it has the potential to be better than the red one and I have just not figured out how to use it the best way . So far I still hate it. The Toadstool is made well and will never break like the cheap red ones. Tip: when I am traveling and do not have a deveiner I cut off the shrimp tails and that makes the shrimp release from the shell much easier when peeling by hand. ... show more
