The media could not be loaded. This is a great sushi maker kit. I hesitated to buy after reading negative reviews but I really wanted to make heart shaped sushi for my husband. So, I said to myself, the worst case scenario, I will return it back. I’m glad that I ordered. Firstly, their videos are very clear and easy to follow for the first time sushi makers like me. I also google some other videos to educate myself before even order this kit. Because this kit will not magically make you a sushi maker if you are not putting your part of learning it. I don’t know how some people managed to fail making it when this kit is super easy to use. Maybe, they didn’t learn that sushi rice is a special kind of a rice that calls for using rice vinegar and there is a special way of cooking sushi rice to make it sticky.. or maybe they didn’t put enough rice in the maker or didn’t wet the end of the nori as it is shown it the videos. Or maybe they don’t have so much cooking/preparing food experiences. I don’t know but I assure you that even your kid can make a sushi with this kit. The material is plastic but it is not cheap at all. It is very thick high quality plastic. The sushi maker has a bag which is super cute and makes the storing very easy. Lastly, no they didn’t sponsor me this is my honest review as someone who loves sushi and watched some videos to learn how to make sushi at home. P.s: In the pics, the bamboo mat is separated because I made many california rolls lately. I put my bamboo mat in a freezer bag instead of wrapping it with stretch wrap. Something I learned from other videos I watched. It is easy to clean and you can reuse it if you pay attention when cutting your sushi. ... show more

    • Great kit, but knife sheathe is not
Overall very impressed with sushi making kit. Have made many wonderful rolls with the rolling mold. The trick with the knife is to slowly saw at an angle. BEWARE the sheath the knife comes in is garbage and my first time I opened the kit it cut right through the sheath and went into my finger. Had to go to urgent care and a month later still have scar tissue. The knife is VERY sharp. But good kit for sure. ... show more

My four year old may or may not have grabbed my sushi mat when I was not looking and I don't know if it was his doing or if it was the mat itself since I had only just opened it, but some of the thread looked rather loose. I emailed customer service and they were nice enough to send me two new mats within only two days! I was so impressed with their response that I knew I had to write a review. I had never made sushi before, but always wanted to. I first bought a rice maker with a "sushi" setting, and looked up how to make the rice. It makes a HUGE difference to follow the directions. I couldn't find my sushi rice vinegar so I made it from scratch (very simple to do- just look it up.) I rinsed the rice several times in cold water, let it soak 30 minutes (I think next time i'll skip the soaking recommendation to see if I like the results better- not that it turned out bad just not top restaurant quality). I then hit the sushi setting and "cut" the rice apart rather than stirred it and let as much steam evaporate as possible until it was room temperature. I used the kit, and took the advice of another user, and bought a can of avocado spray to spray the plastic parts. I was new to the whole thing so I just sprayed everything but the wooden pieces haha. I had extra sushi rice vinegar so I dipped my plastic paddle in it each time I got more rice to spread. I did use regular water to wet the edges of the wrappers and my knife so that they were not sticky on the outside. It is possible to overstuff the rolls slightly, as it will cause the paper to tear, but by and large everything came together perfectly. I think those who say it doesn't make a tight enough roll may be UNDER filling. The hearts were a little stubborn, but as you see from the picture I made it work by running a little water along the top, setting the edger on top and pressing firmly, and just holding it there for a bit so that the crease set well. I used rice (of course), sliced strips of avocado, cucumber, artificial crab, sushi grade raw salmon, and also seaweed inside. I can't wait to find some masago and/or tobiko, as those are some of my favorite toppings! For the sauce I used unagi (it's like a thick sweet soy sauce) but I will also be on the lookout for spicy mayo (of which is easy enough to make from scratch as well). I can't be more pleased with this set, and I know you'll enjoy it too if you are anything like me! ... show more

If the link really is supposed to have tutorials then it's poorly designed... A labyrinth to find MOST included items. It's just a link for marketing more of their stuff. The materials inside are fine I guess. 1 star less because of being misleading, another star less because the quality is ok, but not great. ... show more

My son loves sushi and was very interested in making his own. We looked around for a "simple" but complete kit and this one caught our eye. After reading the reviews we decided to try it. This has become such a fun and an easy (and quick) way to make dinner. There was, as can be expected, trial and error, but even the failed rolls were a fun way to prepare a meal. Clean-up is simple, the plastic is sturdy. I hand wash, but even so, this is holding up and will be a fixture in our kitchen for years to come. ... show more

    • Not worth the hassle
The kit is cheaply made, clumsy to store, the mat and knife were the best part. Still trying to perfect my roll, for me not worth the hassle, I am still buying my sushi.
