    • Hard to install if your electrical box isn't perfect

My 4 inch round electrical boxes don't align with the outside of the drywall perfectly. You have to shim the mounting plate so it is at or slightly above the surface of your wall or the mounting studs won't go through the base of the lamp so you can secure with the end nuts. I used #8 washers between the box and mounting plate to accomplish this. Another way to address it is to get longer 10-32 (NOT 10-24!) screws to affix to the mounting plate so they have a longer reach. If you get extra long screws you can buy some matching nuts so the distance off of the mounting plate is adjustable. I've never seen perfectly aligned electrical boxes and this design clearly depends on it. There is a connector on the ends of the wires with some double-stick tape on it. I never saw such a thing. There are tiny screws in it for clamping down to the wires. So you can either remove it by unscrewing with a jeweler's screwdriver (appears to be torx but has a slot too) to release the screws or you can insert pigtail wires in and screw to clamp them in. I opted to remove the connector. The wires are stranded and tinned. If using wire nuts you would need to strip more back than they have done. I use Wago connectors which worked OK with the tinned ends. The neutral wire is actually white but may be hidden by a black sleeve over it. The wires are separated for only a short distance which you may need to increase if not using Wago connectors. ... show more

Be prepared to take a trip to the hardware store! The mounting screws that they provide for attaching the lights to the wall are never going to be long enough for anyone on the planet to use. And if you live in the USA - they dont sell those exact screws (just longer) here. So be prepared to get creative! The black fasteners did not fit the new screws I used so i opted for some copper wing nuts instead. Also be prepared to learn how to use quick connects for the wiring. Never seen these before now. Could be difficult for folks with arthritis due to the tiny size of the screws in them but over all not a bad system. Oh and make sure you grab both phillips and flathead screwdrivers before you go up the ladder as there is no guarantee all of the screws will be the same. First of all. This is a cheap light as the price indicates. However, I am baffled by the genius who thought it was a good idea to thread the cord through a mounting plate. So, basically they include a mounting plate, which is unnecessary because this is NOT a hard wired item. It’s plug in. So this unnecessary plate cannot be removed without cutting and reattaching the cord. BRILLIANT! See pics. I ended up securing it inside the base with duct tape. Annoying and idiotic, but not impossible to work around. Oh and you will need to find your own black screws to mount it because the screws they give you are set up for hard wiring the light using the mounting plate. In short, they sloppily converted a hardwired light into a plug in light. One more thing: I’m not sure this light meets the US safety standards since there are no obnoxiously large stickers stating compliance as you would see attached to any standard light fixture you buy. The build quailty is ok for a light but dont expect much. Even with the bolt all tight, the light will move if slightly touch. However, since we put this over our vanity, it doesnt get touched so it works.
