  • usable, but needlessly complex
The timer is usable, but needlessly complex, and the interface is limited enough that it's hard to see where you went wrong. For instance, if you don't hit the "confirm" button after setting times, the times aren't saved. If you don't hit the "confirm" button after even just *viewing* the times, the already programmed times will stop working. There are so many modes that it's easy to be in the wrong mode. It keeps working once you have it set up, but every time you touch it in any way, you have a good chance of making it not work. And since it has a seven day program, it can take a week to find out if you've got it set up correctly. It's a good thing that there's a keyboard lock button! I used to own another timer from BN-LINK, which sadly they no longer sell. (I guess BN-LINK and NEARPOW are different companies, but both timers have very similar software with very similar limitations and bugs, so I am dubious.) I can’t use their most comparable current offering (BN-LINK FD60-U6) because it can’t tune down to the second. But that previous timer was better than either of the current NEARPOW or BN-LINK timers. The old one had fewer modes. It was smaller, so that it only blocked one outlet. (This blocks both outlets in a fixture, no matter which you plug it into.) It also had an always-on pass through outlet, so that with a standard two outlet fixture you could plug something into the timer and then you could still plug in two non-timed things. So overall, usable but hard to use, and not as good as the older product. ... show more

  • Use the Confirm button and don't be afraid to reset
Use 'mode' to pick the one you want, use set to change mode settings, or move between events in 'timed' mode. Use 'Confirm' when you're done changing settings, then Cancel+Confirm to lock. Different modes seem to interfere with each other so if something seems off, reset and be sure you only change the mode you want. For 'timed' mode, you should see "OFF" after "Confirm" unless it's time to run, or another mode is interfering. Best value for functionality that I've seen, but durability is yet to be seen. ... show more

  • A good timer for the price with lots of options and a bit of quirkiness.
I wanted to mention two problems I had when first using the timer. But it's a good timer after you get the hang of it. Right out of the box no button would do anything; I really thought it was DOA. Then I pressed the small RESET button just below the screen and everything was OK. (I didn't find anything about the Reset button in the instructions). Later I thought that the timer might have been delivered to me in LOCK Mode, but that's the next problem. The second problem was regarding the LOCK mode, my instructions say to press the CLEAR and CONFIRM buttons together to Lock or Unlock the timer controls, but that didn’t work for me; First I needed to press and hold just the CLEAR button and then short-press the CONFIRM button (even then, sometimes it takes few tries to get it locked/unlocked. Sometimes it seems that I need to first press SET then Confirm before trying to lock/unlock). When the timer is in the LOCK Mode, there’s a letter "A" in the corner of the screen (I guess it's supposed to look something like a padlock). When in lock mode, none of the settings can be changed, which I think is a good feature. Finally, I discovered a disappointing feature about the design which is that the timer body is too large to permit the other receptacle in the duplex wall outlet to be used by another plug (and I've tried some of my narrow-bodied plugs). I like how the timer settings for each of the different modes are saved so that when I change modes, for example, from COUNTDOWN timer mode back to TIMED mode (also called Daily Timing mode) that all my timing schedules are still there. I like that it has up to 19 daily timing schedules that can be assigned for any day or many combinations of days. Each of those 19 includes both an On and Off time. (This is different from the eWeLink app scheduler that I use for my Sonoff S31 Wi-Fi, Smart Socket Outlet Timer with Energy Monitoring devices which allows up to 8 schedules, each of which is only a single On or Off time; I hope that didn't confused you as this timer is NOT a WiFi timer). I like that I can step through (review) my daily On/Off timing schedule (in TIMED mode) by repeatedly pressing the SET button (but while doing the review, the outlet power goes Off, something I don't like about reviewing the timer schedule). When done reviewing, I press confirm and the power goes back On (if it was supposed to be On). I like that it doesn't need to be plugged in to operate the settings. It's not the easiest Clock to set to the exact second; it’s hard to explain, but you might see what I mean if you play with it enough. I did some research on the symbols on the back of the timer; the "House" means indoor use only; the "FCC" symbol means it meets FCC requirements for radio frequency interference; the "Trash Can with X" means it should be disposed of by recycling. I don't see anything comparable to our UL label, but this might but true of many such products from China. ... show more

  • The only timer that does what it does
This is the only timer I could find that has control down to the second and allows for as many events per day. I use it for controlling my watering pump in a hydro garden and this is the only timer on the market that I could find allowing as many events per day as it does and for on cycles counted in seconds. Just typing this makes me think I should grab one or two more to keep around as spares ... show more

  • Digital interval timer HH:MM:SS
As an interval timer, it sets an ON-OFF repeating cycle in hours and/or minutes or seconds. It can go forever or for a set length. For my pet feeder, I set it up for 3 hours OFF and 15 seconds ON. It is very easy to set or change. I have a simple need and this isn’t complicated. My cats are happy so I am happy. ... show more
