Notched braided wire pulls free from drilled holes too easily, unable to reslot as it's braided. Not sure why people are using this for "cheese" as they are not food safe. Sadly doesn't stand up to clay much better, unless you loop it a few time around the dowels.

The wooden dowel handles are sturdy and smooth.. These cut beautifully through and are also useful in taking a finished pot off the wheel. The price point was perfect. I recently started taking a ceramics class and I got these to use at home. The wire is thicker than the one that came with the set of wood tools I bought and feels much stronger. I’m still pretty new so I haven’t really stress tested these, but I like how these cut clean through the clay without too much effort. I’m going to keep a couple for myself and donate the rest to the studio. I’m not sure how often these are usually replaced, but I’ll update my review if anything changes. ... show more

These are like the cutters you get when you take your beginning class. Basic, not the heaviest duty ones and they don't seem like they would last very long. But, there's a lot of them, so we'll see

Although these are great for a class, I tend to set mine down various places so I need spares in order to cut my clay! You can also keep a new set in the kitchen for your cheese blocks. I cut them before shredding in the food processor or by hand. For my clay use, I just can't do without it. I cut the clay and then run through the slab roller for perfect results every time.
