You have found a strange review. I did not buy this to weed with, but to swim with. I invented / discovered the sport of awking, in which I use a 7’+ pole with a slight ski curve and a hook to push and pull against features of the riverbed to fight currents and commune with fish. I found that in a some places, admittedly with an inadequate main pole, I was well served using a small triangular flat rock for close pulling. So I found this thing. Holding it near the rake end, it gives me claws for hooking rocks and whatnot, with the arm resting against the trowel. Reversed, I can use the spade to dig in with the loose sand and move forward smooth. It also serves as the tethered host for my IPX8-rated diving torch. Using silicone athletic grip tape, I have it just above the trowel end, so that some of the light is re-reflected off the shiny aluminum. The large pole is called the “awkwatana,” as awking (river walking) is a bit like sword fighting with the river. I call this little thing an “awkizashi.” I have also used it for weeding. Having both tools always at hand is certainly convenient. There isn’t as much interference, thanks to the clever curve of the handle, as one might expect. I had a Trake hand tool for more than 10 years, and it finally broke. I replaced it in March 2023 with a new one because I loved the tool so much, and it was super durable. In Sept. 2023 the tip broke, which was very disappointing. I called Tierra Garden customer support, and the same day they shipped me out a new one free of charge.
