Description

Read more Water Softeners A traditional salt-based water softener system is comprised of a mineral tank and a brine tank. It is typically installed in a plumbing system at the point that water enters a home. This can also be referred to as “Point of Entry” (potential link). Using a process called ‘ion exchange’, the softener trades the hard water minerals for sodium. The mineral tank is filled with small polystyrene beads, also known as resin. The beads carry a negative ionic charge. The primary minerals in hard water, calcium, and magnesium, both carry positive charges. These minerals cling to the negatively charged beads as the hard water passes through the mineral tank. The brine tank uses common salt (sodium) to create a brine solution. Sodium ions also have positive charges, but not as strong a charge as either calcium or magnesium. When the brine solution is flushed through the system tank it comes into contact with the polystyrene beads, now saturated with calcium and magnesium. Once the beads are saturated, the unit enters a 3-phase regenerating cycle. First, a “backwash” phase reverses water flow to flush dirt out of the tank. Second, a “recharge” phase carries the concentrated sodium-rich salt solution from the brine tank through the mineral tank. The sodium collects on the beads, replacing the calcium and magnesium, which are flushed down the drain. Lastly, the mineral tank is flushed or “regenerated”, eliminating excess brine and the brine tank is refilled. Most popular water softeners have an automatic regenerating system. The most basic type has an electric timer that flushes, recharges or “regenerates” the system on a regular schedule. "United States Water Hardness Map" Grains of hardness processed depends on your household and how water hardness. Example: a family of 3 with 20 grains of hardness will use approx. 225 gallons of water per day (3 people x 75 gallons per person). The water has 20 grains of hardness, you'll need to treat 4,500 grains of hardness per day (225 X 20). Water treatment capacity = (32,000 x .75) divided by 20 = 1200. Your system will regenerate after about 5 days (1200/225). ((32,000 grain capacity x 75% capacity)/ 4,500 grains per day). Grains of Hardness What Does 32,000 Grains Mean? When a water softener is referring to 'grains' it's talking about how many grains of hardness it can process before regenerating. Grains of hardness processed depends on how large your household is, as well as how hard your water actually is. Our Tier1 Water Softener can process up to 32,000 grains of hardness before it's regeneration cycle. Mineral Tank Size: 9" X 48" Cubic Feet of Resin in the Mineral Tank: 1 How much is the Max. • Easy install and set up
Style: 48,000 Grains
Easy install and set up. Works great so far. Had about 1 week. My house was already plumbed for a water softener so install took about 20 minutes once I had all the pex pipe fittings. I didn't read the instructions, I am a guy so thats my excuse, you need to fill the salt tank. Don't forget to fill the brine tank before you add salt. It was an easy install. It comes with 1" and 3/4" line connections. the 3/4" line connections are at a 45 degree angle and the 1" lines are straight. You need to have an outlet readily available also in case you don;t already have one. Don;t know about salt consumption as others have indicated since its only been a week. ... show more

  • I must have got a lemon, but they finally made things right.
Style: 48,000 Grains
Update 10/01/2020: Discount Filter Store customer service contacted me and made things right by giving a full refund. I'm changing my review to two out of five stars. Do yourself a favor and avoid purchasing this awful product. Here is a list of issues I have experienced over the last year half. 1. It was delivered without instructions. 2. The shipping packaging looked like it was a used product. 3. The valve was not programed correctly from the factory. 4. It has leaked air into my home’s piping multiples times. 5. It does not fully soften water. 6. The check air valve assembly failed and had to be replaced. 7. Second replacement valve came broken and missing parts. 8. Customer service is awful, unhelpful and they don’t seem to know their own product. 9. Valve head programing is not accurate. 10. Customer Service does not offer onsite service calls when the unit is not functioning properly. 11. After telling customer service I’m not satisfied with the product and want action to be taken they say they will talk to a supervisor and call back. They never do call back. 12. Tier 1’s Quality Control is so bad is should be a crime. 13. Tier 1 is an untrustworthy company that will not stand by their product or warranty. This is the single most regrettable purchase I have ever made. Please learn from my mistake and buy a unit from a local dealer who will offer onsite service. I can’t wait to take softener at the dump and drop it in a landfill. This been a complete waste of time and money. ... show more

  • Awesome product after 1 year heavy use to treat 21 ppm hard well water. Fittings are male NPT.
Style: 48,000 Grains
This softner is awesome, other brands cost 800-2000 more. I've run this unit through 50,000 gallons of water and test every month, and its zero hardness from 21 grains of my very hard well water. 2nd unit I installed, but I'll add that the fitting are male NPT..why Tier 1 does not state this I have no idea. Also take note this unit keeps water flowing during regeneration which is great..There has been multiple times that i had to get up early for a trip and I have no water, or my tenants complain that they cant take use water early in the AM. This is with Tier 1 other unit, the all digital model. Great tech support and product. Water feels great. Ill see how this does to treat my 12 ppm hardness well at my other property, which has a strong egg smell due to Hydrogen Sulfide. Will update. ... show more

  • Awesome Company and Great System
Style: 48,000 Grains
I have to admit, I wasn't sure about getting this system as I have never heard of Tier1 before and it is a big expense. I decided to go with them and it was the best decision. When the system came, it was packaged great. No chance of anything being damaged. The directions were easy to follow but if you do have a problem, they offer step by step videos. Right away I could tell the head and bypass value (well everything) was high quality. Once in stalled, the system is extremely easy to set up and very user friendly. I did have a small issue so I made the dreaded call thinking I would be on hold for hours or not be able to reach anyone. I was routed to someone in the states and talked to someone right away who was able to help me out. Peter walked me through all the step and was very professional. He took care of the problem and got me up and running in no time, he went above and beyond. If you are trying to decide to go with Tier1 or any of their products, just from my experience, I would go with them hands down. Quick customer service, they back up their products, they are friendly and fast. Well worth every penny. You might be able to find something less expensive or a better sale pitch but don't be fooled. Knowing I can always talk to someone and knowing they back up their products, well for me, I wouldn't look anywhere else. Today it seems like everyone wants virtual tech support or doesn't answer or won't back up their products. For me it's a breath of fresh air to have customer service and a company who cares like Tier 1. ... show more

  • Works Great
Style: 48,000 Grains
I had a 20 year old water softener I had to replace. I had a plumber come in and put in the unit along with a whole house water filter. I had to call tech support to ask about the instructions that were included. The tech was out to lunch but I was told she would call back when she returned. She called me about 30 minutes later and answered all of my questions. Great customer service. The unit itself was easy enough to install for the plumber. I ran a regeneration cycle manually to start with and have let it do everything else on its own since install. The unit is working great. The water is soft when tested a week after install. ... show more

  • It's well made
Style: 48,000 Grains
Yes, well made and arrived in good shape. My problem is with the instructions and the company website. The instructions did not pertain to the unit I purchased and the website did not help too much either. When I called the company the rep. said they were working on videos but did not have them for my unit. He was helpful however. I had to guess quite a bit before I called tech support. It is installed and working fine. The water is soft so all is well. ... show more
