  • Good quality boots
Size: 9 Color: Black Matte
Bought these as a first try of the brand after hearing a little of mixed reviews. Now that I've had them a year and worn in all weather, I'm convinced this was a solid choice. Comfortable and durable, not easily soggy or damaged, versatile, and can be warn a few different ways depending on lacing. A year in, I've added a new insole, but I can still brush them off and carry on. Not exactly a boot that will keep your feet warm, but that's not what I bought them for. Keeping an eye on this brand, though I agree on the sizing. If in men's sizes, they're close but a little small; if you're close in size, go up. In women's, half a size up as a general rule - you'll probably need it. ... show more

  • Honest review
The boot so far does seem to be good quality and decently comfortable. I would recommend eventually getting a new sole insert that has more cushioning. I’ve only had my pair for a couple days now so I’m still breaking them in. But other than that all is good on it so far. I normally wear a size 10, but for boots and running shoes I like to go a half size up to be safe on toe space. So I got 10.5’s and I do believe I could have just gotten a size 10 and still been perfectly comfortable. ... show more

  • Very narrow
Size: 6 Color: Arizona Adobe
The boots are beautiful and the reason I’m giving it 4/5 stars. However, they were very narrow and tight around my toes and top of foot. It was to the point of being painful just putting them on. I originally ordered my normal shoe size and ended up returning them, ordering a half size larger and the wide version. So far the second pair are working out great though and I’m excited to wear them around a bit more to see how they hold up. Definitely recommend going with the wide version if your foot is anything other than very narrow. ... show more

  • Bland and chunky
Size: 10 Color: Brandy
I ordered "Brandy" colored boots, what I received look a lot like the "Toffee" color which they only offer on their website. I see others have had the same issue, either they are fulfilling the orders incorrectly or the color is wildly off from the marketing photos. Boots seems sturdy, going 1/2 size down fit well. Didn't walk around to avoid wear since I was returning due to color being off. The heel is tall and the sole is chunky. See other photos with a comparison shot to my old Frye boots I was hoping to replace. ... show more

  • Stylish, but not what picture looks like and terribly uncomfortable.
I’ve waited a while to write this review for a number of reasons. Mostly because it’s going to be a long, tough review to write. I was looking for a new pair of boots for an upcoming business trip to Europe in the winter. I was traveling for work and like to travel light, so I needed a pair of stylish boots that I could wear with a suit / nice pair of wool trousers in the office, as well as walking all around the city in various cold / wet / snowy / icy conditions. I kept getting targeted with Thursday Boot Company ads on Instagram and they looked great, but were a little pricey, so after a few weeks of deliberation and being worn down from the marketing, I caved and ordered a pair of Captain’s in terracotta. I had read / watched plenty of reviews and one of the things that kept coming up was their return policy was pretty stringent and due to the leather creasing, it seemed like there was a good chance of getting denied a return after trying them on. With that, combined with my need to get these quickly, I purchased through Amazon. Upon opening, I was immediately shocked that the terracotta color looked nothing like the pictures or ads. In reality, it’s well… far more reddish (as terracotta should be) than the pictures. So, if you’re interested, know that they will look more like what you think terracotta should be, than the far lighter color in the pictures. So, after getting past that initial shock, the boots actually look great. I had no problems that others mentioned getting scratched leather that might have been worn. These were definitely brand new. I know because the minute I put one boot on and walked literally 3 steps, there was a visible crease across the toe. This was problematic in that I hadn’t put the right shoe on yet and when I did, I was again shocked. This was the most oddly uncomfortable feeling I’ve ever experienced in a shoe. It felt as though there was something that didn’t belong in the insole. It felt like a metal bar was running cross-wise between the arch and heel. It was so strange, I couldn’t figure out why one boot felt so much different than the other. I couldn’t tell if it was because the shoes were handmade and something was wrong. After reading up, it seems as though there actually is a steel shank there. Either way, I should have immediately packed these back up and sent them back. However, I didn’t for a few reasons: 1) even though I ordered through Amazon, I feared what everyone else said about them not accepting returns because with just a few steps indoors, they were creased and clearly “worn.” 2) I really wanted new boots for the trip and I just tried a giant order from Zappos and nothing worked and I was out of time. 3) These boots looked really good. So good that I was hoping they might just break in and I could get over the uncomfortable shaft in one boot. So, I accepted the fashion industry’s often touted mantra “form over function” and kept the boots. After wearing them a couple of days, they weren’t really getting much more comfortable and I was about to leave for my trip, so I went on a hunt for some insoles to see if that would help. The first full pair of insoles. I ordered did not fit in the boots. By the way, I ordered the size I normally wear, rather than scaling down per the advice, and I’m glad I did. They fit ok to begin with, perhaps a tad large, but not big enough for full insoles, so I went back and got some Dr. Scholl’s leather 1/2 heel inserts. The look blended pretty well with the existing insoles and the boots still fit with them in, so that’s what I went with. It helped a good bit, but didn’t entirely solve the problem. I can still feel the steel shank. In addition to little-to-no cushion, the soles also feel heavy and stiff. Some days they actually give me shin / knee / back pain from walking short distances in them. So, over after 2 trips to Europe and walking about 10 miles a day in these on some travel days, I can firmly say… these just don’t work for my feet. I hate it, because they weren’t cheap, and they do look great with all kinds of outfits and seem like good quality that should last (if I can keep wearing them long enough to find out). I have far less expensive boots of all styles—lace ups, Chelsea’s, work boots, etc. from brands like Kenneth Cole, Steve Madden, Cole Hahn, Kodiak, Born, and more and every one of them is more comfortable than the Thursday Captains. The leather does get marked up easily, but that doesn’t bother me—I think it adds character and makes them look better. The speed lace eyes and the laces themselves have held up. They are pretty warm—I took all kinds of thick, SmartWool hiking socks, which do help with the lack of cushion, but got really hot, so most of the time I just wear slightly thicker cotton / wool blend dress socks. They also carry a heavy leather smell. They don’t stink per se, and the smell hasn’t dissipated or changed yet, but it’s a heavy smell, so if you have a sensitive nose or are self-conscious about those sorts of things—you will notice it. Funny enough, my wintery trips to Europe ended up being quite mild and drier than expected (thanks global warming), but they did fine in small amounts of rain / puddles. The soles are still slick on ice, so be careful. So, unfortunately, I’m stuck with these and I’ll continue to wear them for short bursts, but definitely not satisfied. Would I buy another pair of Thursday Boot Company boots? I dunno. Maybe I would try others on to see if it’s just that pair or inconsistencies from being handmade in Mexico, but next time I will go with my gut instinct and return them the minute anything feels off, because I know they won’t get better over time. ... show more

  • Start with a half size smaller than what you wear.
Size: 8 Color: Black Matte
What amazon recommends based on their data is incorrect. Thursday themselves say to go a half size smaller than your sneaker size. No issue with returning and switching out. I wear a 9, but sometimes find 8.5 fits better depending on width... Amazon says based on their customer data and previous orders 8.5 would work, i trusted this and not Thursdays recommendation... save some time and return and go a half size smaller than what amazons data suggests. ... show more

  • Comfortable

When I bought this boots I was a little bit concerned about how comfortable they could be... but they are surprisingly comfortable, they are very good material 😉 I'm really satisfied with my boots. I would definitely buy it again

  • QC issues with the sole.
Size: 9.5 Color: Tobacco - Lug
First off TBC says to order a 1/2 size down. I wear a 10 in any running shoe, but the Captains in a 9.5 were too big, had to replace with a 9. Second, the pair I received had a noticeable issue with the right boot. There is a significant gap between the sole and toe, much more than the left boot, which was fitted to the sole a lot better. Even if the size fit properly I would have returned regardless. For $200 I won’t accept any QC issues. However, they’re still very nice, comfortable, and overall a good looking pair of boots. ... show more
