  • Great boots.
Size: 14 Color: Black (Midnight Series)
I work doing grounds and maintenance in a very large very busy campgrounds. The first two months at my job my feet hurts so bad I could hardly walk. I tried a bunch of different shoes, but as soon as I started wearing my Thorogoods, my feet got better. These things are firm and comfortable, and my feet feel very protected all day. I love the black on black color combination so my boots stand out a little bit everybody else’s. ... show more

  • Initial impressions are good
Size: 12 Color: Black (Midnight Series)
Very high quality and look great. Preferred size is 12.5. Always go with 13 in shoes because 12's never fit. Ordered 12 and they fit my feet perfectly. Size chart is accurate so measure your foot. Hopefully they break in comfortably and last. I was willing to pay a premium for American made.

  • Surprising Quality & Style
I've always been a sucker for the classic Red Wing 1907 Moc Toe Boot. To be honest, I don't even need these boots--I have a sedentary job and I keep a pair of Vasque Sundowner hiking boots for hiking, which double nicely as work boots around the yard. But still, every time I would see a pair of those Red Wings, with all that gorgeous full-grain, triple-stitched, made-in-the-USA leather goodness, I would purpose in my heart to have a pair of my very own. Typically, I would get as far as typing in my credit card info before guilty feelings over the $240 price tag would cause me to reluctantly remove the 1907s from my cart and go sulk in front of the TV. This time however, while searching for the Red Wings, I came across Thorogood Men's American Heritage 6" Moc Toe Boot. Welt construction? Check. Triple-stitched, full-grain leather? Check. Made in the good old USA? Check. That classic white sole? Check. My heart leapt when I saw the $120 price. Was it possible? Although the Thorogoods in the Tobacco Gladiator color certainly looked as handsome as the Red Wings in the pictures, a nagging doubt entered my mind. Surely they would break my heart by being the same odd orange color one sees on the Chinese knockoffs. Or they would be poorly sewn. Or fit badly. Nevertheless, driven by desperation and buoyed by Amazon's liberal return policies and the thought of saving $120 dollars, I pulled the trigger. When the boots arrived, I couldn't have been more pleased. My wife swears that she saw a single tear of joy roll down my cheek when I opened the box and gazed upon them for the first time. The fit is fantastic, the quality superb and the price amazing. I was surprised that they aren't as clunky as my hiking boots and they're very well cushioned. And the leather...well, it's just beautiful. Highly recommended! ... show more

  • Finally got a pair that fit
Size: 10.5 Wide Color: Black (Midnight Series)
Ordered a pair in 10.5 EE, which is what husband wore in a DIFFERENT Thorogood boot that is no longer being made. Had to return that pair because it was way too tight and too short. Ordered a size larger...11.5 EE. The larger size still feels a little tight over the top of his toes, but the boots are new and stiff, and hopefully after a few wearings they will be more comfortable. Specifically wanted a soft toe boot that is NOT padded or insulated, and they are hard to find. Really like the look of the boot, although we'd prefer black stitching rather than WHITE stitching on the black leather. Colored in the white stripe at the top of the sole using a black Sharpie pen, and the white stitching will turn black with wear (or with shoe polish!). Anyway, husband it glad to have a new pair of Thorogoods. He still wearing two pairs of old Thorogoods, both of which have been resoled twice, now, at a local shoe store that does in-house shoe "repair". Everything holds up beautifully, it's just the soles that wear out. ... show more

  • ) like the Redwings are
I got then the right size for length, but I should have gotten the wider width. I have had to find a new insole solution to make up for this, but it has worked out well. These are a "lighter" boot than my old Redwing 2405's, meaning that the foot area is not lined with any cloth or other material outside of the toe box (for shape?) like the Redwings are. However, they have broken in really well, and this took a few days, some sprays with 1:1 rubbing alcohol and distilled water to help stretch, and some Huberd's shoe grease. However, my Redwings benefited from all of these things as well. I have walked miles straight in them and while they are not a walking shoe, they did just fine. I like them really well, and they look like a nice casual shoe with pants so I can wear them to church. The soles do seem to grip well, but they are noisy on hardwood and many other indoor hard floor surfaces. You can't be very stealthy. I think that the construction is top notch. Yes, the top eyelet grommet has some little metal prongs that are not hammered down well and can both hurt your fingers and snag the stock laces. I stopped using the top holes and all is well. I am glad I bought them, and glad my size was not $170 at the time of ordering, I would have been way bummed by that. Note that not all sizes are returnable, that is why i have stuck with them to make them work. I am pleased overall though, but next time I will get the wide and choke down the extra cost. Note though that the reports of this shoe's comfort and support are exaggerated to me. If you are familiar with the foot-beds in Chaco sandals or Birkenstock shoes, I would call that approach to arch support well done. I own both of those and I love them dearly. Comparatively, the insole for this Thorogood model is flat, as is the sole under it inside the shoe. Not horrible, and in all fairness, it is very similar to the stock insole Redwings come with, but for my needs I would have had to approach other insole alternatives anyway. I have no medical problems with my feet, but my arches really like the better support in other brands that go for both comfort and proper support. My feet aren't yours, though. And, either way, these are really, really well made, and they look great. For e, after a few days, maybe a week, they feel great as well. However, I have not had to be this dedicated to a pair of shoes for break-in since my childhood. I think it was the stiffness of the sole, the leather is super soft immediately and only gets better. Maybe a tad thinner than my Redwings, but quality all the same. ... show more
