  • Surprisingly great
I’m a public school teacher on hiatus, currently secular homeschooling my children. We have purchased a lot of science kits, and I have to say, I’m impressed with this one. It’s not just a craft. There is an interactive book that comes with it and the experiments actually have a direct purpose within the lesson. I plan to look at their other kits because this one is so well done. ... show more

  • Fun & Informative
My 6 yr. old loves science. We've been using The Magic School Bus kits as our science curriculum for school. He begs to do it everyday, doesn't get bored, is attentive and actually retains a lot of information we learn from the kits. The kit includes activities that he can do himself (he can measure things and mix ingredients); the material in the kit is easy to clean up, so I don't have to worry about damaging clothes or my house; and there's enough material that if he wants to do the activity a second time, we can. We are also part of a group with home school families where he participates in a science class with other kids his age. I often hear him saying, "I remember doing this!" and than giving the answers to the teacher's question. It's amazing we can have fun and gain an education, too! ... show more

  • Teacher and Home Educators Says "Excellent Kit."
I am a former teacher and current homeschool educator. I am very picky about science kits and generally most fall short of my expectations. This kit, however, is a wonderful jumping off point for an inquiry into dinosaurs. This kit used hands on activities to teach about the different types of fossils, carnivore and herbivore teeth, the different time periods, habitat, etc. The final project culminated in a 3D dinosaur puzzle to build and paint. The ideas were creative and I appreciate someone else doing the planning, material gathering, prep work for me! Some extension activities we did: made a full sized timeline and the children drew with sharpie and watercolorsd dinos to add to the timeline (simple tutorials can be found on the Art for Kids Hub website), we dissected owl pellets to recreate a paleontologist's thought processes, we printed a life sized Triceratops footprint and discussed perimeter, surface area and measuring, I drove my car at 15 mph and my son chased it to experience in a concrete way the speed of a T-rex, we measured dinosaur sizes on the wall and floor and marked them with tape, we made dino eggs out of paper mache, designed dino habitats/diorama for our Schleich dinos with materials from the dollar store, talked about ecosystems and food chains, learned about Mary Anning and sang "She Sells Seashells," etc etc. Have fun with your dino kit and enjoy learning with your child! ... show more

  • Didn't hold attention as thought
My 6 year old son is into dinosaurs and enjoys watching The Magic Bus Dvds, so I thought this would be a good buy. We started off making the dinosaur. You have to punch the pieces out of boards. Not as easy as you might think. Some of the pieces already had cracks running through them, so you had to be even more careful. And some pieces ended up with not so smooth of edges. The pieces didn't fit together that well, and my son soon lost interest in trying to piece it all together. It went in the trash instead of his nightstand as I had envisioned. The molds, well, they didn't work so great either. The prints looked like blobs. At least he got the concept of how molds and fossils are formed. Maybe a kid with more patience would have appreciated the kit better, or an older child. I had great hopes, but I think for now, books and plastic dinosaurs are still the way to go. This won't keep me from trying other kits in the series, I just may wait a year. ... show more

  • Good set for preteens.
My daughter has had some fun playing with this set. She wants to be a paleontologist when she grows up, so this type of thing is very interesting to her. I feel like she will get several more days of play out of this set. Some of the things are a little hard for her to do, she is 10 so it was surprising to me that she needed help. Not a bad thing, I think she would have gotten bored if it had been too easy. All in all, it would be hard to find a better set, but I wish there were one. Hence the 4 stars instead of 5. ... show more

  • Great kit!
This kit is amazing! Much more comprehensive than I was expecting, it's really awesome. Make a dino dig, learn about the 4 types of fossils, lizard temperature, timeline, etc. My 5 year old boy had really enjoyed it. I'm impressed. We watched the old episode about dinosaurs on Netflix prior to opening, I really wanted him to know the characters and I still remember the stuff Magic School Bus taught me. ... show more

  • Perfect for Dinosaur Lovers
This was the perfect activity box for my four year dinosaur lover. He loved it because it was about dinosaurs and I loved that it kept his attention, learned new facts and scientific information and worked his fine motor skills. Great rainy day activity! I will look for more Magic School Bus science kits! ... show more

  • Simple kit with lots of experiment to entertain and educate the kids.
Plenty of simple experiments to keep the kids busy during the winter or rainy days. Lots of information can be found in the set. The only thing that could have been added to complete the set would be a DVD or access link to the episode that corresponds with the kit.
