  • Holy cow I can't believe I did it!
First of all, I am a beginner. I've watched youtube videos and at least new a little about crocheting but didn't want to make scarfs and blankets so when I saw this advertised for beginners with tutorial videos that walk you through it I was intrigued, even though it seemed a bit pricey, I decided to treat myself. I was initially pleased with the videos, counting stitches, writing them down and so happy when i had the correct numbers. The stitch marker is a pain (gotta be a better design). Then things started to get more difficult and frustrating and poor quality in the videos after working on the snout, nose and mouth. Some things were just not very clear and how to attach things. The video footage was often at the bottom of the screen and being cutoff, or some of the instructions for the pattern was covering up the footage, or they were going way too fast. I managed to understand the magic loop more than how to do the slip stitch and chain for the mane! Also, felt like I was left hanging not knowing what to do with the end strings, especially after joining the mane. So I got to the point of throwing caution to the wind (or saying F it) and just did it my way in what made sense and looked good to me. And I finished it, hooray! So proud of myself. I like the sense of accomplishment. Was it worth it, eh? Does seem overpriced giving the poor quality of the videos and the pattern instructions. I can't really say I recommend it, but if you are a beginner and want to try it, I recommend sticking with it, don't give up, and push through. If I can do it, you can too. As we say in running, just keep moving it's not a sprint. I'm going to try a lesser priced kit and see how it goes. Will report back. Best wishes if you give it a go. UPDATE: I tried a couple of other less expensive boxed kits and was very disappointed. One kit came with access to videos, that were difficult to understand. I've increased my rating of this kit (Sebastian). I truly love it and the fact that I made it. Although some of the videos are not 100% understandable, just take a little leap to get to the other side. On that note, I do recommend it if you really like the animal character on the package. Although it was a bit pricey, it was worth it. I have learned some new skills, gained some confidence, transferred the knowledge to other projects, and am well basically hooked! LOL. There are some great free videos on YouTube (such as OLLIE+HOLLY) if you really want to start out just learning basics. Best wishes on your crocheting endeavors. ... show more

  • It really is for beginners!
Color: Penguin
I always wanted to learn how to crochet to be able to make amigurumis but I didn’t know where to start. When I saw The Woobles for the first time I loved it but couldn’t bring myself to pay the price for the kit. But time passed and I was always coming back to check them out again and again. I read countless reviews, the good and the bad too and finally, after a couple months, I decided to buy the penguin kit and let me tell you, I don’t regret not even a bit! I have read some reviews saying it’s not really for beginners and the videos taught you up to a point and left you hanging without further explanation. Well, I can say I was able to make my first amigurumi and learnt how to crochet with the videos. I felt they were very thorough and would explain what you had to do next using the previous knowledge we got from previous videos. I love it so much that I bought 3 more kits to make for my kids and I wanna buy more! It’s totally worth it! ... show more

  • Could be perfect with minor changes
Color: Penguin
This kit is great for someone who is completely new to crocheting or someone who needs to remember the basics. PROS: -High quality yarn and the lightly larger crochet hook make it easy to avoid some of the frustration with lesser quality products. I can’t stress enough how amazing the yarn is… -Unlike some other kits, it’s very easy to access the website with the instructions videos. -The explainer videos may seem slow at the beginning, but the narrator wants to ensure you get all of the necessary skills to succeed. How can Woobles get better? -There are no physical instructions and I was forced to jump pack and forth between sections to remember how to do certain things. Include a booklet of all the stiches to help us with references (I couldn’t find the yarn under section) and maybe even include the overall pattern details in case we want to do it again. -Speaking of videos, the magic loop video opens up in a side window which prevents you to go backwards between the individual videos. You have to relaunch it each time if you want to go back to a step. -Some of the steps in the later videos seemed to be rushed. They omitted what to do with the yarn tail with the 3-D pieces. I hope they will add those suggestions, because these kits are great. ... show more
