  • Holy cow I can't believe I did it!
Color: Lion
First of all, I am a beginner. I've watched youtube videos and at least new a little about crocheting but didn't want to make scarfs and blankets so when I saw this advertised for beginners with tutorial videos that walk you through it I was intrigued, even though it seemed a bit pricey, I decided to treat myself. I was initially pleased with the videos, counting stitches, writing them down and so happy when i had the correct numbers. The stitch marker is a pain (gotta be a better design). Then things started to get more difficult and frustrating and poor quality in the videos after working on the snout, nose and mouth. Some things were just not very clear and how to attach things. The video footage was often at the bottom of the screen and being cutoff, or some of the instructions for the pattern was covering up the footage, or they were going way too fast. I managed to understand the magic loop more than how to do the slip stitch and chain for the mane! Also, felt like I was left hanging not knowing what to do with the end strings, especially after joining the mane. So I got to the point of throwing caution to the wind (or saying F it) and just did it my way in what made sense and looked good to me. And I finished it, hooray! So proud of myself. I like the sense of accomplishment. Was it worth it, eh? Does seem overpriced giving the poor quality of the videos and the pattern instructions. I can't really say I recommend it, but if you are a beginner and want to try it, I recommend sticking with it, don't give up, and push through. If I can do it, you can too. As we say in running, just keep moving it's not a sprint. I'm going to try a lesser priced kit and see how it goes. Will report back. Best wishes if you give it a go. UPDATE: I tried a couple of other less expensive boxed kits and was very disappointed. One kit came with access to videos, that were difficult to understand. I've increased my rating of this kit (Sebastian). I truly love it and the fact that I made it. Although some of the videos are not 100% understandable, just take a little leap to get to the other side. On that note, I do recommend it if you really like the animal character on the package. Although it was a bit pricey, it was worth it. I have learned some new skills, gained some confidence, transferred the knowledge to other projects, and am well basically hooked! LOL. There are some great free videos on YouTube (such as OLLIE+HOLLY) if you really want to start out just learning basics. Best wishes on your crocheting endeavors. ... show more

  • Don’t Hesitate, It’s Worth It!
Color: Penguin
I was so worried about buying Wobbles because of the 1 star reviews, but after doing my first ever crochet project in about 3-4 hrs, I don’t really understand some of their concerns, and here’s why.. The videos were extremely clear, they even teach you the basic stitches. You don’t need to know anything (I certainly didn’t). Stitches I learned: single crochet stitch, increase stitch, invisible decrease stitch, invisible fasten off, and slip stitch Other things I learned: how to control tension (tho I did struggle with this), embroider eyes, make a magic loop, and attach 3D + flat pieces. If you want to try more advance techniques, the tutorial allows you to go to another one of their videos and learn it (like crocheting ring into a chain vs magic loop). And the yarn does not come apart (I did the magic loop, but kept making everything too tight, so I had to restart a few times after trying to man handle the yarn), as you can see by my little guys stomach, the yarn is still intact and barely worse than before (other yarn would have been long gone). Now I know I crocheted with a tighter tension, but I have enough materials left over to make a medium sized penguin, or 3 tinies. ~ I added a picture of my leftovers. On top of this, if for some reason you are having troubles, you can talk with someone on their live chat feature and they will help you get through what ever you need. You even get a downloadable pdf so you can continue making your penguin without having to rewatch the videos. * I’ll be honest, I just bought 7 more because I want to learn some of the stitches through Wooble + make some of their patterns for Christmas presents, but this really gave me the confidence to begin working on projects I’ve wanted to start for years, so I know I’m not reliant on them! * ... show more
