After seeing recommendations for Aleppo Pepper on several cooking programs, I have been on the lookout for it for a few years now with no success. The Spice Way package is fresh and carefully curated. I like the flavor profile of this Turkish pepper: milder than standard red pepper flakes with an almost citrusy and more nuanced depth. High on flavor and less on heat, it can add a bright red color to a wider range of foods. It is an important Mediterranean component in a flavor array. If you are looking for Aleppo Pepper, this brand is a good choice. This is the second time I've purchased from them. The pepper is very fresh. I use Aleppo pepper in lots of dishes as it gives big flavor without a lot of heat.

    • Seemingly Great Quality, Cannot Use Due to Celiac Disease
I received this Aleppo pepper last week and it definitely looks to be fresh and of as good of quality as I've ever purchased from other stores. However, the packaging states that this spice was processed on equipment that was shared with a variety of common allergens and sensitivities, including wheat. Since I have celiac disease and have an autoimmune response to wheat (not an allergy, not merely an insensitivity), I unfortunately cannot use this product. Rather than return it, I did find a good home for it with someone else, which actually scares me a bit after doing so. Anyone making a gluten free meal for me will reach into their spice cabinets and use peppers, cumin, garlic powder - the common things we all use - and will definitely believe they are making something safe for me to eat. However, if potentially shared equipment with wheat was used to process any of the naturally gluten free ingredients, their final product is also unfortunately potentially contaminated. Regarding this particular product of Aleppo pepper, it was on me to not verify that the product was gluten free, and I really have to use products that are certifiably gluten free if I want to be sure (there are definitely spice stores out there that speak specifically to not using shared equipment to process their spices). ... show more

This was a key ingredient called for in a dish I made recently (which turned out quite beautifully, I might add) - but yeah - it was pretty much impossible to find this spice anywhere in this region. So, I ordered it. I was not disappointed. It has a very unique flavor. I’m happy with the product!
