  • An amazing book to learn about serving
This book was super helpful to me in learning how to set up and use my serger (I am new to serging). It explains everything you need to know in a super clear way, it goes over how to fix things like tension with loads of pictures, then gets into all sorts of other things you can do with your serger to use it not just for finishing seams but also creatively and decoratively. This is a great reference for anyone interested in upping their sewing game. ... show more

  • Fabulous resource for serger use
This book shows you how to thread a serger for the many stitch variations & uses of a serger. Originally written for Janome sergers-which are pictured in the book-it is nevertheless useful for ANY brand of serger with a few tweaks. I have a Juki serger, so I follow the threading guidelines that came with my Juki machine, & use the tension dial suggestions for many of the serging techniques suggested in this book. For instance, I never before though of using a narrow seam on the serger for the first pass of stitching for French seams. Brilliant! This book has a permanent place next to my serging tools as a reference!! ... show more

  • Great book for anyone who is at least familiar with basic serging
I have a few serger books, some better than others. This is one of the good ones for me especially as she has pretty much the same machine as I do but even if you have a different brand there would be no problem as they all work pretty much the same. If you have a Babylock with air threading and auto tensions then it wouldn't be much help. This book is easy to understand with lots of colour pictures to help you. It also has snippets of coverstitching throughout plus the 'Ideas' pictures on how to incorporate various stitches into design features. The only thing I would emphasis is that if you are an absolute beginner (i.e. never used a serger before) I would recommend getting a beginner one first as some of the instructions are assuming you are fairly familiar with using a serger and skim over the very basic stuff. For me, it rates as one of the best ... show more

  • Everything you need to know to use a serger
If you have or you are getting a overlock sewing (serger) machine, this book covers all the basics and more. I have found it much handier than having to watch tutorial videos. You can keep it right near your machine for quick reference. My machine came with a manual and stitch technique guide, but I find the color photos in this book much easier to understand. All in all a very useful book. ... show more

  • I really liked adding this book (by Hincks) to my sewing library ...
I really liked adding this book (by Hincks) to my sewing library as it is easy to hold, colorful, informative, easy to read and understand. The chapters are not long boring narratives, but broken into small sections accompanied by many pictures in color with tips in boxes and closeups of the items described. Chapter 2 includes the decorative stitches, and use of each specialty foot. Chapter 3 has a number of serger projects to make to become as familiar with a serger as you are with a sewing machine. I also own the Sewing Machine Embroiderer's Bible (Keegan) and the Sewing Machine Accessories Bible (Gardner & Logan) and refer to these small manuals often. Together, they make a nice set. ... show more
