  • Nice!
Have tried one of the recipes. I work outside home so much that I have not had opportunity to try more recommendations. I like less petroleum options for home use.

  • Easy and pretty effective recipes, reasonably priced upkeep
My husband and I have been using this book for a few months. Following the instructions, we are slowly starting to get down some sort of routine for regular cleaning, as we hope to get our act together before our baby arrives in May. It's not to the letter, but if we can do half the cleaning the author prescribes in a week, we're light years in the right direction! With three cats at home, we are very concerned with keeping things clean but also eco-friendly and non-toxic. I saw this book online and had to try it, and I am not disappointed! Almost every recipe we tried this far has been effective and pretty cheap to employ. It does take a bit of money to get started because if you want to do it properly you want to get most of the materials you know you will use a lot together ahead of time, but since we spent $100 or so getting our stuff together, we have barely spent a dime. No joke. I'm pretty sure the amount of laundry detergent I'm not buying has already paid for everything: we made a huge batch of powdered laundry detergent and have been using it for months!! We've tried laundry detergent, bathroom cleaning, kitchen and floor recipes. All of them have been very effective and cheap to make. The only one that hasn't worked for us was the powdered dishwasher recipe. All my dishes got spotty & caked with white stuff, no matter how we tried to adjust the recipe and use vinegar as a rinse agent. We may try again later with the liquid version, but for now we're sticking to good old Cascade tablets until we are comfortable with a new solution. I took away a star for this book for only a few small reasons. For one, the issue with the dishwasher recipe. Second, the fact that almost half the recipes are some sort of lemon and clove. You can obviously switch out the essential oils as you please, which the author points out, but I just thought it was a little strange that almost all of them were basically one scent. Lastly, the cleaning schedules / checklists were a little daunting. For someone trying to get a fresh start, I was rather overwhelmed with the amount of cleaning she suggested I do, and still am. To the authors credit, though, she has a variety of checklists/schedules that hopefully will work for a variety of people, and may one day work for me if I choose the right one. She has an accompanying website with really neat printable stuff to help keep you on track. I particularly like the monthly calendars that line up everything I need to do in a month, or as an alternative, simple weekly reminder slips for the fridge to do the 5 golden tasks per day with space to write in other reminders. Happy cleaning! ... show more

  • I really enjoyed looking through this Book
I just started looking into creating my own DIY Natural/Chemical-free type of cleaning products this year 2022 and I’m so glad I found this book. I really enjoyed going through the pages and checking it out, I already made a face+hands wipes for kids and this was perfect for my toddler (the EO’s I chose are safe for 2+ year olds) He’s always messy after eating and I would have to wipe him up after every meal. *EO= Essential Oil **My Journey: It all started with essential oils, I got very educated from the company Simply Earth, I highly recommend their EO. I noticed a lady in these reviews complained about the dog wipes, to do your research cuz EO can be toxic to animals. But the EO asking in this recipe is toxic to cats, it’s actually safe for dogs. And if you want things unscented, you could leave out EO in your recipe of DIY products. I don’t think it was necessary for her to rate this book low due to her lack of research. I really think this is a great book. ... show more

Customized - You can change the recipes according to your preference of essential oils. Inexpensive - You will save money. Environmentally Friendly - Reusing your own containers means less plastic containers in the landfill. Enjoyment - It's fun to make your own safe, natural products - they make your spaces so fresh and clean! ... show more

  • I noticed that these recipes do a better job than the chemical cleaners
I am honestly surprised with how well these recipes work. I had checked this book out from my local library and started using the recipes right away. I decided to purchase because I was impressed with the recipes, the reference information at the front of the book, and wanted to have this book on hand. I have used chemical cleaners but my daughters are at the age where they want to help me clean and we recently acquired a new puppy. I didn't want them to ingest or breathe in the cleaners. Right off, I noticed that these recipes do a better job than the chemical cleaners. The author includes quite a bit of information on the products used (vinegar, essential oils, baking soda, microfiber towels, etc.) and why they work. I found the essential oil chart especialy valuable. I have hard water, and I found that I could still have really clean surfaces with these cleaners. IMHO, it appears that chemical cleaners leave a residue behind. But with these cleaning recipes that does not happen. I also like how time is very effective for cleaning. Some of these recipes tell you to put the cleaner on your desired surface and let it sit for a certain amount of minutes. It is nice to let the cleaner sit and then come back and all I have to is wipe. Also there was a bit of trial and error to see which recipes worked for me. And because of this, I'm beginning to truly understand the power of simple household ingredients. ... show more
