“OMG… I was totally addicted!! I was at the edge of my seat biting my already short nails! This book was mind-blowing, thrilling, extremely suspenseful, and totally jaw-dropping!… I absolutely loved it… Earth-shattering climatic scenes!!… You should have seen my facial expressions… I could not believe what I was reading!!” Heidi Lynn's Book Reviews, ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ As we welcome the Rowe family to our beautiful clifftop hotel, a shadow passes over my husband’s face. In that moment I see it: my husband is hiding a terrible secret. Has he put us all in danger? Mark and I always dreamt of opening a hotel overlooking the rugged Maine coast and raising a family there. We welcomed our first guests to our cozy B&B a decade ago and we pride ourselves on giving every guest the perfect vacation, from our little family to theirs. Until the Rowes check in… The Rowes arestrangely over-familiar when they arrive with their teenage daughter. The wife puts a hand on Mark’s forearm and her husband meets my eyes with a knowing look as I hold my little son tight. They gush that they loved their previous stay here… But I’m certain they’ve never been here before. Mark reassures me that the Rowes are just being friendly. We have so many visitors, maybe we forgot meeting them. But I’m not so sure. They booked out the whole B&B for themselves, insisting they are here for much-needed family time. But when I hear someone whispering a lullaby to my baby on his monitor, I know something strange is going on. Mark again brushes away my concerns. Why won’t he believe me? Then when the relentless icy rain gives way to the biggest blizzard of the season we become cut off. Now my beautiful baby boy and I are trapped. I’ll do anything to protect my darling son, and I cannot trust my husband. With the storm closing in, I know I need to stay in control. Because Mark doesn’t know what secrets I’m really hiding. And that it was me who invited the Rowes here in the first place… The Hotel is a totally twisty locked room thriller that you won’t be able to put down. • Enthralling thrill ride!
I’m so glad I decided to give this author, this book, a chance. It was so thrilling to read! Without giving anything away — I just gotta say that when someone who deserves their comeuppance receives it, & you get to be a fly in the wall — well, it’s extremely satisfying! So many surprises & twists in this extremely creative story! I will say however — though the character development was wonderfully done, & the dialogue as well as the inner thoughts of the characters rich & superbly written, the world building could have been a bit better. I had to use my imagination to fill in too much of the settings & scenes. Some areas were just permanently murky in my mind throughout this read, with only the characters being quite clear & colorful. Thus, what this world looked like wasn’t very flushed out at all, so this is a bit of a disappointment. I do want to add that the setting sounds amazing, where the Inn sits. But I really struggled to “see” the big picture. And this is a shame; a missed opportunity by the author. To be able to clearly envision the cliffs, the sea, exactly where the Inn & barn sat in relation to it all would have definitely increased the enjoyment of reading this tale. That said — absolutely give this story a go! It truly is gripping & all the twists & the conclusion are surprising in the best way possible. I’m going to read The Wife in the Photo next. The author included an excerpt of this book & I’m already hooked, just a mere 3 chapters in! It’s looking like author Emily Shiner might have a new fan of her work! ….. ;) ... show more

  • The Hotel: good thriller, pretty predictable
I love Emily Shiners books, I felt that this book was very predictable. I kept waiting for a big twist but it never came, I had already figured out everything from the start.

  • Whoa!
Amazing book with twists and turns that never disappoint. Emily has you caught in wonderment ... Trust me ... she's amazing. I've read about 4 books of hers so far and have more ordered. Keep it going Emily ... I'm a huge fan! But seeing my posts on FB ... you likely already know.

  • Wow. I would not like to have dinner with any of these people!
I give the author kudos. She really did keep the mystery rolling the entire story. At one point, I was losing interest because there were so many unknowns. I disliked everyone in the book. But the story came full circle and answered all those unknowns. I really liked the twisty ending. It was a nice touch. I'd like to read a sequel to this one. ... show more

  • Wow Simply Wow!!
What did I just read?? This is a fast paced book with so many twists and turns that kept my heart racing. Every time I thought I had it figured out then Bam it went in another direction. When all the dark secrets started coming out I thought I couldn’t take anymore and then more would come. The ending was explosive and totally unpredictable. A great read!! ... show more

  • Different
Yes it was a thriller but for me it was a completely "different" type of book. I'm giving it 4 stars because I did end up enjoying it but for awhile there my head was spinning with everyone except the poor little child being a "bad guy". I'm going to read another book by this author next to see whats up with her style. ... show more

  • The book did not live up to the glowing reviews
Before starting a new book, I almost always read a number of reviews, from the worst to the best. This book, according to a majority of the reviews, was portrayed as a real nail-biting page-turner, a book that would keep you up all night reading until the climactic conclusion. First of all, I was not very pleased with the writing style. It seemed rather juvenile to me. I didn’t mind that it was written from the POV’s of all the characters. That was actually interesting and helped with the flow of the book. But I did not like a single character, and couldn’t find any redeeming values in even one of them. There was no one to root for, with the possible exception of the child, Henry, but even he seemed to be a spoiled little guy, though through no fault of his own. Yes, there were twists but I felt they were all very predictable. I wasn’t shocked or surprised by any of them. All of the characters were basically very selfish, out for only their own wants and desires, no matter who stood in the way. Although, in the end, I guess you could call one person the “winner”, but in my opinion, there were no real winners. Not one character had any growth or developed any kind of positive moral change(s). I was basically disappointed and felt like I lost a few hours of my life that I can never get back. I guess I learned a lesson about reading and believing reviews. From now on, I will be more mindful of reviews. I can usually tell if I’m going to like a book after 15-30 minutes of reading, and should stick with that personal measuring stick from now on. If, after no more than an hour of reading, I don’t find a book interesting, then I believe it’s time to cast it aside and read something else, and never force myself to finish a book just because I started it. I would not recommend this book. Others obviously liked it, so, as always, it’s one’s own personal viewpoint that matters. I am grateful I learned a lesson about depending on reviews as a viable tool as to whether I will like a book or not. ... show more
