  • The cutest movie from back in the day. Cute songs, gnomes, Walter Brennan, Mary Poppins Kids
My forty something sons loved this back in the day so had to rent this for my grandkids. We all loved it. The gnome mobile song will stick in your head. You wilfl love the redwood forest scenes, the gnomes, the granddad and the Mary Poppins twins. They find, then take a lone male gnome and his granddad to a place where there are more gnomes as the felling of the trees in their forest ran the rest off. The forest land is owned by the grand dad of the kids. Mayhem ensues but all very enjoyable, movies that were not all woke are fine too see. ... show more

  • Childhood Classic
This movie came out when my mom was a teenager. She shared a story with me when I was young about how she went on a date to the drive in to see Gnome Mobile for the first time. I loved watching it as a child and of course my mom and I had to watch it with my 6 year old daughter to continue traditions. We were disappointed when we could not find it on Disney+ as it is a Disney movie but I knew we could find it on Prime Video. The characters in this story are hilarious and the story line is absolutely adorable. Who doesn’t love a good wholesome film with a few kooky characters, a loving grandpa with his grandkids, and a cpl of slick villains mixed in? The gnomes are cute as can be and the blast to the past journey Gnome Mobile takes you on is both fun and fantasy. We love this movie! ... show more

  • A Hidden Gem
"The Gnome Mobile" is a fun light-hearted look at ... the blindness of greed, the innocence of children, the Irish, and ... gnomes. Made shortly after "Mary Poppins" was made, "The Gnome Mobile" stars "The Mary Poppins Kids" Jane and Michael Banks, who here are Elizabeth and Rodney. Elizabeth and Rodney are British sister and brother who fly into San Francisco to visit their very wealthy American businessman grandfather. Once there, the three of them go for a car ride (in Grandfather's beautiful old Rolls Royce) deep into the forest for a picnic lunch ... and that is when the fun starts. Living in that forest are two gnomes (little people): Jasper and his grandpa Knobby. The two gnomes are very worried that they may in fact be the last gnomes in existence ... and when Jasper sees Elizabeth (she had wandered into the woods a little) he decides to break one of the gnome rules and show himself to her. He (Jasper) has heard that other gnomes may be living in other far away forests ... could she help? Elizabeth hurries and fetches Rodney and her grandfather, they meet Knobby, and the five of them then embark on a mission (in Grandfather's Rolls Royce, which Elizabeth now calls "The Gnome Mobile") to find other gnomes ... especially a girl gnome who Jasper can marry. It's a fun journey. They encounter some trouble along the way, but it's not too too bad, and it does bring out some more fun. The ending, I will say, is a very happy one. The children (Karen Dotrice and Matthew Garber) are pretty good here ... maybe not quite as good as they are in "Mary Poppins" but adorable and fun none-the-less. Walter Brennan plays the grandfather (he also plays Knobby the old gnome) and he is excellent. The bit players ... actors and actresses who have only small parts in the movie ... are also top-notch. And the special effects do a good job of making the gnomes look like they really are only a foot tall. There's only one song in the movie ... but it's a good one. But "The Gnome Mobile" is sort-of a hidden gem ... a good fun movie to watch for those who happen to find it. ... show more
