  • Wonderful content, not so great binding
I recommend everyone, especially those who love Romanticism, to give Blake a try. Erdman and Bloom put together an excellent copy--the only downside is the crappy binding. I've owned my copy for less than a year...the binding is literally falling apart and torn, about 40 pages have come loose, and both the front and back covers are peeling off. I have read it a lot, but that is still unusual for a paperback. ... show more

  • A Direct Line to Heaven
When I first encountered William Blake's poetry as in an Undergraduate I was most struck by his combining poetry and painting along with relief etchings that he felt were divinely imparted. The imagination for Blake was a direct line to Heaven and the act of creating art and poetry was a holy one. "Thy fair haired angel of the evening/ Now, whilst the Sun rests on the mountains, light thy bright torch of Love; thy radiant crown/ Put on, and smile upon our evening bed!" Wm .Blake ... show more

  • Comprehensive, but poorly bound
I am certainly pleased with the scope of this work, but the book itself was not very well bound. I bought two copies of this book -- one for a gift and one for myself. It was good that I did so, because the binding on the first one was detached from a block of pages as I first opened it up -- the second one appeared to have been intact and more suitable as a gift although I suspect the binding on it as well will soon become detached from pages. ... show more

  • William Blake is beyond humanism he is straight up Antichrist
This volume is very complete and a quick flip through will show that Andrew Blake is not only very humanistic but very against the church institutions which is understandable for the time (1757-1827) what is not understandable is how anti God he is; God is not responsible for institutions in churches and how they interpret religion Andrew Blake was obviously very intelligent but very angry and I do understand why people find him fascinating but I cannot recommend him. ... show more

  • Essential for Blake fans and the Blake curious..
There's not much more I can say after reading the reviews below, except to agree that this is _the_ book to own if you're wanting to add William Blake to your library. This is a large book, clocking in at around nine hundred pages. Within you'll find all the great poetry that makes Blake, well, Blake. The "Songs of Innocence and Experience" are truly wonderful, as is "The Marriage of Heaven and Hell". Lots to read here beyond than the known works, including miscellaneous poems, songs and verses and sataric verses and epigrams, even letters that Blake himself wrote. The book is neatly organized and easy to navigate, making the section you're looking for a snap to find. At the back of the book are sections with textual notes (a small "t" is marked throughout Blake's works), and commentary (a small "c"), also marked. Invaluable resources to help understand and navigate the complexity of Blake's poems and prose. An index of titles and first lines is also included in the back. All in all a wonderful collection for any Blake fan to own and for the curious to lose themselves in the majesty that is William Blake. ... show more

  • The music of words can be found within
This is poetical lyrical gold. Others no doubt have already mentioned this with far more depth and breadth than I could ever hope to convey.
