  • Simple, loud, long-lived alarm
I got one of these about 10 years ago for the pan of an old water heater I was a bit hesitant about. About 2 years ago the heater did start failing with a slow leak in the pan, and the alarm did alert me to it, giving me plenty of time to calmly arrange for its replacement and safely drain it before it turned into a real problem. I don't know if it is 110 db, but the thing is plenty loud on alarm test, and it is very frugal with battery life - with periodic testing, I've never had cause to replace battery in my original one. At my new home I got a few more of these for early warning at other common points of failure - toilets, laundry and dishwasher for peace of mind, the design hasn't changed - very basic but reliable. ... show more

  • It already saved me once from a leaking water heater!
THE BASEMENT WATCHDOG Model BWD-HWA 110 dB Battery Operated Water Alarm, has been an excellent addition to my home safety setup. This water alarm is perfect for placing next to water heaters, next to the dishwasher or laundry room, under kitchen and bathroom sinks, and by AC drain pans. It saved me big from a leaking water heater! The alarm is powered by a 9v battery, which makes it very convenient to install anywhere without worrying about electrical outlets. The 110 dB alarm is loud and ensures that you can hear it from anywhere in the house, giving you peace of mind that you will be alerted to any leaks or water issues promptly. One of the standout features of this product is its extended cable, which allows you to place the sensor separately from the main device. This is incredibly useful for those hard-to-reach spots where leaks are most likely to occur but where placing the entire device might be impractical. Make sure to test it periodically by touching the two sensors with a finger. I also write the date of installation on the battery and change it once a year. With the cost of insurance and labor going up, don't skip on this economical and reliable home protection device! Overall, THE BASEMENT WATCHDOG Model BWD-HWA is a reliable and effective water alarm. It's easy to set up, provides a loud and clear alert, and offers the flexibility to position the sensor in the most critical locations. I highly recommend it for anyone looking to protect their home from potential water damage. ... show more

  • Great water alarm
This a great water alarm. It has a detachable remote sensor. The alarm is quite loud. Test it and change the 9v battery once a year (or longer, even). Price is reasonable. I have mine set just inside the edge of the sump pump well, and I hope it never goes off!

  • Seems to work
We have had a lot of rain this spring and early summer. The ground is saturated, my Mom sump pump has been running nonstop. She had a drain back up, And her pump arm broke. So that was replaced, drain cleared, but the new sump pump was very quiet whisper quiet. Too quiet for mom’s peace of mind. Since the old one had made noise, she had that comfort, knowing it was running and there wasn’t water in her basement. This seemed like the best alarm for the money. Myself not having any smart items in my home, she doesn’t either, many of the water alarms are smart. Seems like you had to also purchase a subscription. It’s not clear so we’re not sure either way. So this seemed like the best compromise For her, so she has peace of mind. Will update if there’s any issues with this item. The alarm is loud. Very easy. I don’t know how long the battery lasts. It’s sensitive enough. We were afraid the moisture in The concrete would cause it to go off. But the sensor is ever so slightly raised up off the ground with feet on the bottom. I might actually buy a few for my own home. I have never had a leak, I don’t have a basement so I don’t have water issues. But I did have a dishwasher and a sink leak. Not sure. ... show more

  • It’s reliable!
I have one of these under every sink and in the laundry room. I also used the ability to extend the sensor to a space under the floor where the refrigerator sits. This was after we had a water leak inside the wall behind the fridge. I test them about every 6 months just by “shorting” the contacts with my dry finger. They are sensitive enough to react and produce a loud squeal. Very useful devices! ... show more

  • Easily detects very small amounts of water and the siren can be heard throughout the house.
One is by the oil burner and one has its long cord going into the sump pit with the sensor at the end. Next time any water gets in my basement I will be warned and act quickly. Potentially a warning device like this could save me thousands of dollars.

  • Love this ...
A friend of mine recommended this when I told him that my water heater appears to be on its last legs. It was recently drained which I do annually and the tech noticed some sediment in the water which does indicate future issues. The alarm is quite loud and I placed it in the water heater pan. This is an excellent product at a great price. I highly recommend and plan to purchase additional alarms for use under kitchen and bathroom sinks. ... show more

  • Loud Alarm when sensor becomes wet
The new Vevor sump pump and Liberty water powered backup run very quietly. I can only hear either pump running if I am downstairs in the basement. There is really no setup with the WatchDog Alarm other than adding the 9v battery and connecting it somewhere in the sump hole. Before installing I did test the alarm and it came on when the sensor contacted water. Using a zip tie I installed the alarm to the drain PVC pipe connected to the electric pump. (As shown in the attached picture) The alarm was placed at the height in the hole where the backup would come if the electric pump failed. I check my pumps frequently to make sure they are in working order so this inexpensive alarm works for me. ... show more
