    • DOES NOT WORK WITH RECHARGEABLE BATTERIES, otherwise a good detector

As the review title states, this unit will NOT work with rechargeable batteries. (The voltage of rechargeable batteries is lower than those of Alkalines; 1.2 volts versus 1.5 volts... so two of them are 2.4 volts versus 3.0 volts). The unit won't even turn on if you put Ni-Cad or Ni-Mh batteries in it. This is likely a consequence of the unit's design actually requiring the higher voltage. This is annoying at best, and warrants the one-star deduction. That said, if you are willing to put up with having to use disposable Alkalines (which are not at all environment-friendly) then this unit does the job very well. It does detect inflammable gases such as Natural Gas, Hydrogen Sulfide, Methane, Propane, etc, and is rather sensitive. ... show more

The detector works as it should. Tested on a gas burner to make sure that it would make an auditable sound which it did. Took it around to all of the outdoor gas connections and found one small leak. It seem accurate and easy to use.
