  • Really great workbook
I really enjoyed complaining this workbook and definitely found some benefit in the process of it. They gave a lot of space to do really important, reflecting on yourself. I think it’s certainly helpful to also be in therapy during this process. As it covers some topics, that can be intense to think about. I think that it can be super important to be able to also be working through these things with a mental health professional. ... show more

  • Amazing book for anyone avoidant or struggling to understand your avoidant
Oh my gosh this book is absolutely phenomenal. Of all the books that I purchased lately this is by far my favorite one. It's so well-written and so easy for me to understand as a fearful avoidant. Even though I already knew what I was it was really fun to take the tests just to see if I'd even progressed. The book hits you in the face with examples of things you never would have thought you were feeling, that will trigger memories but also speak to you in such a way that it's not to medical terminology. I think that anyone dealing with any kind of avoidance or even somebody who is dating a avoidant will really enjoy this book. I feel like I could hand this book to someone who's different for me and they could fill out different sections of the book and actually have a full book. This book gives me hope for the person I could be. I'll definitely be keeping it on my shelf to go back and read it a few more times. it even comes with blank extra pages so that you can redo all of your results over and over and over again I think I'm going to do it in a couple of months just to see how much I progress. My only advice is to take your time and read it slowly. I raced though it. I do agree with another (Mr. Logan) as a person who is a fearful avoidant with a cluster b parent it helped but I do think for our type another book will help more. I also had a harder time following because I've just come out of a relationship and am not in one currently. So some of the stuff was hard. It infact made me feel worse in many ways because I realized what I should have done. Which was buy this book BEFORE I messed up my last relationship. ... show more

  • Attachment theory
Therapist recommended it. It's helping me thus far.

  • Helpful
I liked the way this helped me think about my anxious attachment and my potential partner. However, some of the exercises are supposed to be done with another person and that didn’t work for me. I still found some of the exercises helpful, though.

  • Useful Review
Good summaries! I especially liked the overview of typical fears and values behind the anxious-avoidant dynamic and the clear examples of what secure behavior/values look like. This book is very down-to-earth and helpful to read. A lot of the other attachment theory books that I've enjoyed focused more on technical explanations of dense concepts, and this one is easy to read and hopefully just as easy to apply on the road to 'earned secure' attachment with friends and possibly more. ... show more

  • Great resource
Excellent information in this book and really helps you dive into where your behavior comes from. You can photo copy sheets before filing them out to have extras and there is a website you can print some off too.

  • Effective in helping you in relationships
You will have the opportunity to acknowledge things about yourself that may make you cry or nod your head “yes” to, but in the end, the exercises and words allow you to deepen understanding of oneself and those with whom you are in close relationship. Worth reading.

  • Not very understanding to avoidants
I think the book idea is great but it's MISSING one of the forth attachment styles! Plus, if you are dismissive avoidant, it's not that helpful. More catered towards anxious people.
