  • Awesome!
I enjoyed the plot. It was a little difficult at first, but then I got the hang of it. Then it was smooth sailing to the end. I recommend crime buffs to purchase this game.

  • Obvious Answer
It is exactly as described. We all guessed the killer as soon as we got started. We kept going thinking it couldn’t be that easy. But it was. It was a fun and different game to play with the family.

  • Fun few hours
This is my favorite so far of this brand. It took me about two hours. Once you get to know the makers of the mystery (different brands have different things they tend to do), it’s easier to figure out. This brand is more process of elimination, but I got the answer right. Unlike another review, I didn’t guess the answer right away. I also didn’t make a timeline, so I don’t know if there is a mistake in the timeline. Ultimately I enjoyed myself with this game. I’d recommend getting it while it’s on sale, I’d say it’s worth about $25 and not more! ... show more

  • Fun Game Night
Had a group of us playing solved within about 2 hours. Super fun!

  • Catfish the Game
This "mystery" can be solved the second you open it even though it advertises that it needs you to read through and make connections. Honestly the ending pissed us off more than the enjoyment we got from trying to make connections that weren't as obvious as the initial answer. What makes it extra frustrating is there was potential for layers within the clues like the newspaper that could have lead to a much more interesting ending than the basic one you did end up with. ... show more

  • Too obvious
I solved it as I unpacked the contents of the envelope. I thought there was no way the solution was that obvious and spent an hour or so trying to figure out something else. Anything else. No one would create something that easy, right? But, it turns out it just really was that simple. My time and money were wasted. ... show more

  • A unique spin on Murder Mystery
My partner and I love the Murder Mystery series, especially for their component quality. Newspapers, photographs, dossiers, etc. feel real and engaging. The Asylum Murders is a very different take than the usual Murder Mystery, though. Rather than solving a current case, you're a descendent of an old asylum patient tasked with figuring out who committed a series of gruesome crimes -- based solely on the evidence found in your ancestor's suitcase. The mystery itself was engaging, though there were SO many characters that it became hard to keep track of them all. You will absolutely need to write down notes just to keep all of the people straight. Sadly, we guessed the wrong suspect due to missing a clue that we were slapping ourselves for overlooking. And that's the sign of a good mystery deduction game in my mind! ... show more

  • Fun Way to Spend a Few Hours
It’s difficult to review this murder mystery game without giving away the solution. My husband and I weren’t able to solve the mystery and, in retrospect, we should have gone about our “investigation” in a different way. All of the materials in this packet are good quality. The instructions are somewhat unclear, and we were confused as to whether the suspects were only the 6 shown in the “Suspect Profiles” booklet or the 9 shown in the photographs. The booklet also mentions that additional clues are provided online, but this isn’t true. We have played similar murder mystery games by a different manufacturer and enjoyed those more because they gave us the ability to go to a web site where we were given the opportunity to choose the killer, and, if we were wrong, it would give us another clue and we could continue with our “investigation.” With this game it’s simply “one and done,” which is very disappointing. SPOILER: I think that other reviewers who claim that this mystery was too easy to solve simply took a lucky guess based on obvious circumstantial evidence that would never stand up in court, and it’s extremely easy to see why they chose the suspect they did. My husband and I enjoyed this game very much. I like that it can be played by one person or many, and that it can be passed on to friends or family members for a fun game night. ... show more
