  • Great book full of wonderful moody colors and surreal environments!
This art book covers the manga artist, Pozuka Demizu's personal works. This book is a like a very small square dimension-wise but is a little more dense than you'd expect. Inside, Demizu depicts surreal environments, imps, and monsters, along with a good amount of machinery sprinkled throughout. Her line work has a very sketchy, graffiti-like ballpoint pen quality to it, but this isn't bad as it compliments her use of foreshortening and allows her use of moody colors to take the spotlight. While most artists revel in obsessing over smoothing out and over-polishing their illustrations, Demizu goes the opposite route by allowing the illustration's chaotic, sketchy roots to show in the end product. --- PROS +The jacket cover and the inner pages are very stylish looking! +Book jacket and page quality looks and feels great! +The artbook's size makes it pretty portable for reference on the go. +All of the Japanese text has an English translation next to it! Rejoice, English speakers! +Unique book dimensions make this book irresistible to flip through and hold in your hands. CONS -Demizu's art style may not be for everyone. Her tendency of having an abundance of sketchy lines can turn some people off. -The some of the detail in her line work is lost after being shrunk down to fit the book's size. --- For artists that want to learn from Demizu... Unfortunately there's no tutorials or shared step-by-step process found in this book but I think you can still learn a few things about his use of color after flipping through. I'm so happy I picked this book up for myself and I can honestly recommend this to others who are interested in painting or compositions. ... show more

  • BUYER BEWARE: SLEEVE NOT HANDLED WELL/SLOPPY SHIPPING
The interior is very nice. The colors inside printed very well, but I'm quite disappointed with the way the book sleeve was handled in shipping. It's hard to capture in photo, but you can see that it got quite mangled. When I first got the package, it was in an even worse state than this. The book sleeve for the paperback was crumpled at the bottom. This is the result after a couple days of weighing it down with heavier books. I'm quite disappointed with the quality of shipping, but in terms of print quality and content, it's very nice. It's a shame but I'd expect better quality for the book sleeve, especially for an art book where visuals are so important. ... show more

  • Beautiful Artwork
I have been collecting artbooks for a couple decades now, mostly 70s-90s Fantasy/Scifi. I generally shy away from Japanese artists save for very few grandmasters (Amano, Ohrai, Yoshida etc) since i hate the Anime aesthetic, androgynous character work and modern digital paintings. Having said that, Posuka Demizu's work is incredible. decidedly hand drawn and whimsical, it reminded me of why i got into this hobby: Artwork that sparks the imagination and pulls you into the world behind just a single image. I cannot recommend this book enough. Every single page has a full color/full page image on it (save for a few 2 page spreads), no space is wasted, the printing is very high quality and done in Japan. Posuka Demizu is definitely an artist i will keep an eye for. A+ artwork and quality. ... show more

  • Beautiful, vibrant drawings.
I never know what to get my now17-year-old granddaughter. But I found this book in a store and bought it for much less (plus it was returnable) on Amazon. She just loves it. Lots and lots of drawings in all stages, and as I said, the colors and just so glorious. Thanks for making our Christmas!
