We had fun playing with the set and learning about science and forensics. The only negative is there are not many experiments and eventually his interest waned.

I got this science set for my 9-year-old son, but I think I was the one who was more excited about it. If you love watching CSI shows like I do, you'll probably love this too. I like the way they included stories to tie in to the experiments, and the explanations of the science are pretty good too. Some additional materials are needed, but all are pretty common household items or easy to find if you don't already have them (see photo). My son has tried UV-activated ink before, but this was a fun twist to pretend to be a detective searching for clues. He was very interested in checking for counterfeit bills and finding fingerprints. I got this for my 9-year-old and he absolutely loved it! It is simple enough to use and yes you need to supply basic things but they're really cheap and a lot of these are just lying around in most households anyways. My daugther had some forensics in her 6th grade science course last year, so I ordered her this Thames & Kosmos Spy Labs Inc: Forensic Investigation Kit Includes Large Lab Setup to Collect & Analyze Evidence & Clues | Explore The Science of Detective Work | for Young Investigators. She really liked this kit and played with it for several hours with her 11-year-old brother. I do recommend to check what you need ahead of time because not all necessary items are included.
